When it comes to full face helmets I usually find they restrict my field of view more than I like. I eventually bought a Roof Boxer (helmet on the right) because it allows you to swing the chin bar all the way to the back of the helmet and use it as an open face when you want. However, I recently purchased a Nolan N43 (on the left) which has the largest field of view for a full face I have found yet. The chin bar is actually removable but with it in place it stays out of my line of sight even when glancing down. I am wondering if others have found different helmets that address this issue or offer some unique benefits. I was also able to install a Nolan blue tooth system into the N43.
It was my summer commuting helmet. I gotta do a bit of highway riding these days so it doesn't get worn much (very poor aerodynamically for naked bike use). It was meant to loosely emulate this:
I have the 1st gen Roof Boxer and would not ride with anything else, until the Roof Desmo which is supposedly out end of Sept. The only down side is the noise, which is above average, and the aluminum screws holding the chin bar that with enough rotation they will work themselves loose, but as long as I pay attention, I can quickly tighten them up with a Leatherman tool in the tank bag.
Around town and below 50mph, I will ride with the chin bar rotated to the rear. I call it the 'scooter' mode. If I have to hit the Interstate I will rotate and secure it forward. I can do it with my left hand while moving. Often get curious looks from drivers before I sped off.
