this is my 1977 Honda CB400F that i just finished bobbing. Stretched the swingarm 4" Chopped and narrowed the tail those are the two big things i did. theirs to much little stuff also, but would take to long to list. i will say that the exhaust slip on used to be part of a helicopter tail rotor drive shaft.

Used to have an original 400F... My vote is chop the tank, repaint one of the original colors with pinstripes, kick up the last section of header about helmet high with a fishtail (RICE!!) and ROLL. I liked the old blue. Try to use the beauty of the curves of the old NOS pipes, and at least do a high "scrambler" setup. You're attempting a piece of art. Nice piece of work! |

Oh, and fill in the section where the battery is, with a cover or something funky. |

Did it lots of times, no big deal. Mine looked exactly like this until I started tweaking things.

Dammit, that's the one I had! Didn't remember them doing the 400F to '77 though... |

Looks like you have no oil tank... And no air filters. Still makes me miss my old '76 750! |

I like it. Nice look overall. Wonder how a matching color bum stop seat would look on alternate Thursdays. Real question, having lived in SE Alaska, did you have to photoshop in the sunny day? Nice job, Dave |

Agreed with too many carbs. But it's not that bad. I made a home made sync tool and it worked brilliantly, perhaps better than a factory tool. Take a 10 foot or so section of thin clear tubing ($3). Loop it in half. Tape it to a yard stick with the loop at one end but not all the way at the end of the yard stick (so you can put that end of the yard stick on the ground and not mess up the loop). Suck a little two stroke oil (dyed and harmless if it gets sucked into motor) so that you have the bottom 4 inches of the loop full of oil. Put one open end of the tube to one of the carb sync ports, the other end to the other carb, and fire it up. Because it is measuring the differential between two carbs, you don't need a bunch of mercury, the oil holds fine. And if it does get sucked in, just put in more oil. The differential measuring also makes it incredibly accurate. The bike will still vibrate all wrong though. I'm doing a cafe conversion on a 1978 KZ-400 right now. |

NO Really AKbuell, its been sunny here for the last month!!! and NO im not on crack or long term delusional, yet...... Iv got a MotionPro sync tool on the way. It got good reviews so im hoping it will be a straight forward task. The last thing im waiting for is an old set of cowboy style saddle bags to mount to the back, then the brown seat will fit in better. |

Those Honda 400s could go in stock form. Stripped down like that I bet it has some good zip. Adding some simple sheet metal side covers painted to match the tank and fender would give a more finished look, but that's just my opinion. I would have just a bit more seat too! |

I like it, exactly as is almost every suggestion here drives your vision toward some ill-defined center of this overall style ------------------------------------------------ is yours a 6-speed tranny? isn't the 6-sp one item that separates 400-4s from 350-4s? |

yea its a 6 speed. Thats the great thing about customizing bikes, 100 people see 200+ ways to do it, and who's to say any of them are wrong. Chop what ya got with what ya got. Next summer the 1983 GS1100 is up for a Street fighter/Hooligan chop. Im thinking lotsa chrome with Ducati red pin stripes. |

On the other hand, as much as I don't want a in inline four cafe racer (I was specifically stalking a parallel twin), I'd have jumped on that one anyway just on the basis of how that 4:1 header looks and was routed. |

It (GS1100)was a good score for $100 as it used to be a weekend racer so it has all the race bits already on it including V&H pipes.
