I finally got a free weekend to try to repair my wife's Suzuki Intruder. She had a 2" hole punched in the bottom of the crank case by a piece of road debris. I fabricated a patch to cover the hole out of a piece of cast aluminum that I found at a local junk yard. I adhered the patch using Devcon Titanium Putty (spendy stuff). Managed to do the surface prep with the motor on the bike, and fit the patch over the weekend. After 24 hours of cure time, I replaced the oil pressure sensor (sheared off), filled the bike w/ oil and cranked her over - she runs like a champ. Great to see the smile on my wife's face when she realized that she's gonna get her baby back - we thought it was a dead loss most likely. I'd like to thank all of those that read my initial post (Devcon Titanium Putty) and offered words of advice. A special "Thank you" goes out to Jim (Fireman Jim) for taking the time to let me bring the bike by his shop for a visual once over and advice. ...and Bill (Reepicheep) - yes, the Devcon Titanium Putty works well. Pretty easy to apply, decent pot time (20 min) to work with it, and sets up good and strong in 6 hours. |

I remember that discussion. Glad you got it fixed up. I have little doubt the repair will hold up well as long as you did good prep work. |
