My wife picked up an 06 Beetle convertible. I'd like to put some product on the fabric top to preserve it. Anyone know of a product they would recommend? Thanks XO. |

Hey thanks for the direction but maybe I need to explain my local.... We don't have many convertible cars in this area (as a percentage of all cars) so there is not much of a market for top care products. The auto parts stores don;t carry anything. I assume I will order on line when I find one of choice. My first call in this search was to my local VW dealer service desk - they don't have a product, which really surprised me that they might have missed a way to make a buck. There is no local shop that replaces tops - I would have to take any top issues it to the dealer (see above) A garage here would be step behind a dealer me thinks. So that returns me to the OP - do you know of a product that you (from your experience) would recommend to me? Thanks XO. |

Gotta love researching. Here is what I have learned today: All major Auto manufacturers use tops made by The Haartz Corporation. The VW Beetle is equipped with HAARTZ Sonnenland® A5.3 An acoustically enhanced three-ply composite made of an acrylic twill weave outer fabric, a rubber inner layer and a polyester lining fabric. Most automatic car washes will not harm cloth top fabrics. Washes with water jets and hanging cloths provide a more gentle cleaning action. Those using heavy barrel brushes could damage the top material. Haartz recommends hand washing. The Haartz Corporation recommends using RAGGTOPP™ Cleaner and RAGGTOPP™ Protectant (available from Wolfsteins Pro-Series at tel: 800-377-4700, fax: 770-395-1353, e-mail: info@wolfsteins.com). Posted up in case anyone other than me cares. Cheers all XO. |

Sorry, I too have a rag top. It is on my Jeep. I have had this top from 'Best Top' for about fourteen years. It is in remarkable condition considering all I have done to maintain it is to cover it with mud and hose it off every now and again. It has spent more than half of it's life setting out exposed to the sun. Over the years of being a bodyman/painter/shop owner, the best looking longest lasting tops that I have seen, have been kept out of the sun as much as possible. Some people have miss interpreted this to mean park it under a tree.....well tree rot will kill one faster than sun burn. Pine needles, leaves, and mold work hard on making them rot. |

Old Guy nailed it. 303 (link is to the kit that has cleaner and protectant in it). 303 has great stuff for cleaning and protecting vinyl as well. Never use Armor-All for anything. |
