We just got back from spending 10 days in Scotland. Kind of a pre-20th wedding anniversary present to us before the twins go back to school. Anyways, we rented a 2012 VW Passat SDI, 2.0L diesel with BLUEtech. What a car!! We drove just over 750miles without stopping for fuel. In fact with the rental agreement we did not put any fuel in it at all. This car was a joy to drive, impressive all the way around. Quick, plenty of power to get around the round abouts with getting run over. Great acceleration for passing the endless horse trailers. Roomy and comfortable. The only draw back was the the driver was the right side of the car thus driving on the left side of the road. Made for some interesting moments with my wife and co-pilot reminding me to "stay left dear" or when turning "near lane honey." We had a great time made all the better by a better than average rental car. |

How many times did you bang your hand on the door going for the gear lever. Lots of nice diesels over here. (smug) Where'd you go in Scotland? my family is from up in the North-East near Forres. Big Sis has a place on the coast there & cousin Hamish has the castle. I need a trip back up there, I'm getting withdrawal from Haggis.

Mr. Grumpy, we started off on the Isle of Arran, then to Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo where we sat in front of David Hasselhoff, then we traveled the Whisky Trail through Pitlochery to Lossiemouth where we renewed our wedding vows and went fly fishing. Forres is real close to Lossiemouth. How many times did you bang your hand on the door going for the gear lever. More than I care to admit, that and walking around to the wrong side of the car. |

"that and walking around to the wrong side of the car." When that happens, throw your wife the keys and get in. Try to look purposeful. |

Ah the Tattoo is something special isn't it? I went many years ago. I always split off the trail at Grantown on Spey & head up over Dava moor to Forres. First time I took Madame G she couldn't get over how my grin got wider & wider as we got closer. There's no place like home. Some lovely beaches around there too, but you need to be a hardy soul to swim. Did you see the Tornado's flying out of Lossie? Also did you go round the Glen Moray distillery at Elgin? (my favourite) Their 18 yr old is mmmmmm |

When that happens, throw your wife the keys and get in. Try to look purposeful. Yes but that puzzled, "wtf happened to the wheel" look is a dead giveaway. I did it with Madame's car in front of a load of locals shortly after we first met. |

It is my understanding that they are phasing out the Tornados and bringing in the next generation of plane to Lossie. We did not get to Glen Moray but my wife is BIG fan of The Glenlevit so I suprised her with a private tasting and tour there. We have stayed in touch ever since. There were some hardy souls doing kite boarding one day while we were in Lossie. The average water there is about 7-10*C. The minister that married us 20 yrs ago is the minister at St. James in Lossie now. My wife met him while she was on a semester abroad 25 yrs ago. He was preaching in South Carolina when we got married so we flew him to Wisconsin to do the ceremony. |

Cool. nice idea to go to the same minister, lucky he's in such a nice place. As I understand it the Tornados are now staying as the base has been reprieved from closure, & the Typhoons will be moving in as well. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scotland/81 99721/RAF-Lossiemouth-to-be-saved-at-expense-of-Le uchars.html |

That is great news for Lossie! They really rely on the base for a majority of their economy. The ministers' wife is a doctor over in Fochabers. We have already started to save for the 25yr anniversary trip. |
