My wife and I are planning to take a week vacation in KY in a couple weeks. We're looking for motorcycle friendly campgrounds, (tent camping), fun roads, etc. We usually stay 2 nights, check out the roads and attractions then ride to a new location for a couple nights. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |

Kin folk. Best way to stay in Ky. is with kin folk. I went with a friend and was treated like family by his kin folk. Had a great time everywhere we went. |

I stayed at the lodge at Pennyrile state park on my way through once. I'm sure they have camping too. Nice lake and hiking trails. Good riding in the area too. It's on my list of places I would go again. |

For sure do part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Woodford and Makers Mark were the best factories. http://kybourbontrail.com/ |

Ourdee, actually I think I have some cousins there, haven't seen them in nearly 50 years. The Bourbon Trail sounds VERY interesting. They let you sample? |

Let you? Why they'd be put off if you didn't. |

Ummmmmm the Corvette Museum, and the Wild Turkey Distillery, and I forget the rest, since I always visit in that order. |

You show up at the distillery, and can relax there in cafe's they have set up. And you can sign up for the tour (cost something, but not much) and at the end of the tour they give you a shot and you can keep the glass (at least at Woodford). The tours are very good, its a neat process with great history. And the smells are wonderful once you get to the aging room. The roads in between are great as well, particularly if you spend some time with a good mapping package and have a GPS that will let you control the route. Many of the goat trails around there are nicely paved. |

If you're a baseball fan there's the Louisville Slugger factory & museum. http://www.sluggermuseum.com/ Oh and don't forget WAFFLE HOUSE. |

Couple of weeks? You should be here about this time... https://www.bardstown.com/~kybf/orderForm.htm Cave Run (twin knobs) has nice camping spots, my favorite is F loop especially down by the water. Same lake but farther out is the Zilpo Recreation Area and it's a great road getting there. You're about 20 miles from Morehead at Cave Run. Boonesboro has nice camping also and is close to Richmond. You'll probably want to check out the Red River Gorge area and Natural Bridge for any hiking and the Gorge area roads are some of the best west of the Mississippi. I'm down to a Vulcan but would be happy to show you around some if our schedules mesh up. |

Great ideas! Wife has been printing up some of the sites mentioned. Natural Bridge looks interesting. Anything to do with Bourbon sounds really interesting. How much are D.U.I.'s in KY? |

Kyrocket-Thanks for the offer, we usually pitch our tent and check out the local roads and attractions for a couple days then ride to another campground. Sometimes we sit around the campfire and do nothing. It's just good to get away. |

Well the offer stands. I know about every back road and shortcut from Morehead in the east down to Richmond in the south, north to Georgetown and over to Frankfort. I used to work at Jim Beam, not the one that gives tours though, but there's some cool old abandoned distilleries in Milville just outside horse country. I do agree with you though, it is nice to get away and just have nothing to do. If you make it to Natural Bridge make sure you stop and have some pizza at Miguels. It's on Google. |

You'll get one shot on the tour, stop with that, and buy a bottle to go at the company store to bring back to the campground with you. They have all sizes and lots of neat varieties. It'll taste much better to drink good bourbon around a camp fire than it will to ride into a deer or a buzzard (both of which I had to react very quickly to avoid hitting during our tour there last year at this same time of year). |
