I just bought a set for my VR and got wondering if there's anything special that needs to be done for mounting/balancing.

Why not ask the manufacturer?

I LOVE my Blackstonetek (BST) wheels and Braketec ceramic rotors.I have had them for 4 years now.The only care is generic car wash.

NOTHING special WRT mounting/balancing

Cool beans Ducxl, I got a smoking hot deal for a set of BST's from Brock's Performance and while I've read the do's and don'ts, its nice to hear from an actual owner.

Speed Freaks, I did contact Brock's and was told they'd mount like any other wheel, but in my experience, its better to get advice from people who've actually done it over a dude answering phones. When you pay this kind of money, siding on a side of caution and getting as much advice as you can, can't hurt.

I have to ask, are there valid technical reasons for doing this?
Or is it just a cosmetic thing?

I can see the reduced rotating mass & unsprung weight arguments on a race bike or light small capacity screamer, but on a V-Rod is the difference significant enough to notice.

I'm not having a pop, just interested.

I'd be freaking out every time I had to mount tires on them...

Grump, for me its mostly looks, but the reduced weight also makes turns quicker. I have the Street Rod so any gains in performance, while shaving off some lbs is good with me.

I was warned by BST to ride cautiously with these wheels at first because the noticeable reduction in weight has led to guys under steering bikes into the pavement.

"I'd be freaking out every time I had to mount tires on them..."

I've asked friends at the PDC to mount them for me. I seriously don't trust a HD dealer to do this.

I don't blame you. I wouldn't trust myself to mount them either.

One of my buddies owns a MX/Cycle shop in in town by me, he's chomping at the bit to try it. I asked him if he's mounted a set before..."no, we came close to mounting a set on a Duc, but the guy took them to his dealer."

I said, "Cool, who's the dealer?"

LOL

Hi Guys:

I want to put CF rims on my X1 in the future. I know it will be expensive and I would like to save for it. When I called a Stateside distributor for one of the major CF rim distributors (I forgot who it was), I was told that they do not make rims for Buells. What would be my options?

Thanks

Thanks to Court, I have actually held an 1190RS CF wheel. Very light, made me laugh it was so ridiculous.

Not sure if the wheel sizes line up, but Blackstone Tech (BST) makes CF wheels for the XR1200.

Wilson, I'll take some pics tonight when I get home.

They're so light I could play ring toss with my johnson.

I do not want to see pics of that evolution.

Just the wheels, no johnson.

You don't live too far, you could ride down to Kenosha and show me.

Forget the Galfer rotors.CF wheels deserve the ultra lightweight CERAMIC rotors. Like the Brake Tech brand Axis Ceramic.wanna talk lightweight?

That's some sweet looking wheels, please post pics when finished.

Have you considered ordering a No-Mar tire changer?

Keeping with the lightweight theme I have weighed pr2ct vs pp2ct vs pilot pures (rears) & there was was almost a three pound difference heaviest (pr2) to lightest (pilot pure). Same type of results with the front but not as drastic.

Pwnzor,

I was thinking tubeless moto wheels, but after reading your post again, it occurred to me that you might not be asking about a Suzuki.

Your stock ones are way better than those ugly dish wheels other VRs come with. The new wheels are sweet.
