As per the page mostly - 'This one has had a little help in photoshop, adding the vignette and balancing the exposure. It's a 5 second exposure with the flash hand-held and manually tripped, off to the left of shot' Put the camera on the tripod. Minimise ambient lighting. Detach the flash. Walk a few feet to the other side of the subject. Trip the shutter with the infrared trigger. Manually hit the flash several times to backlight the subject. Dial the exposure time up and down and repeat till you get a workable result. Particularly effective on chromework. Photoshop - image menu -> adjustments -> shadows and highlights. Slide baby slide. :-) |

How about finding a magazine to sponsor you over for next year's International M/C speed trials on the Bonneville salt flats? Lots of Oz & NZ folks at Speedweek, maybe at the BUB meet. Great stuff, that page! And, how's our Doogle? (Message edited by moxnix on August 21, 2012) |

I'll float the idea. Trouble is the editor or publisher usually jags that sort of gig for themselves. Doogle a haircut yesterday. Looking real sharp. |

Well, if you show them the pro fotos on, say, BUB International Speed Trials Facebook page, perhaps they would find a reason to bring you with. It's a very good place for artistic photography. I kept some Aussies supplied with cold cans of Sprecher Viennese Lager to keep them from dehydrating, got a CD from one James Stewart, Oz musician, delivered a Cooper S FIA legal block to another, and kept track of bikes from the former Commonwealth, etc., etc. Always good to chin wag with our cousins no matter what accent we have to decipher. |

Can you post a link of the Photo Court is talking about- I'm really interested in the description of the lighting method... Love the website and photography! |

That answer my question. "flash hand-held and manually tripped, off to the left of shot' " and the presence of the engaging spoke shadows. The back light flash shots explain that. You are an excellent photographer, a better artist and a master at the combination. When the paved road of skill ends, tis the artists that continue to the summit. Great work . . . . . as always. Very cool shot. Really enjoyed checking out your website this afternoon- broke up an otherwise mundane afternoon. Keep up the excellent work! |

>>broke up an otherwise mundane afternoon. << Very good to hear thanks. For me the enjoyment/puzzle is partly how to 'deploy' the images. Photos are better looked at rather than sitting on a spinning metal disk so I like to work out the code, CSS and html5 options to display them. I guess in some degree I like the frame more than the picture. Digitally anyway. :-) |

Nice work, painting with light is the term I learned and that is a prime example of it. Well done. Had an old timer do it with regular AC lights and a view camera. He would open the shutter and leave it open while moving a light about. I would stand there with the cap and he would tell me to cover the lens while he moved the light and then I would uncover it. He would light an 30 foot diorama with one light and one exposure. I was B&W so we had a lot more latitude than with color but it was impressive to see him haul a light, tripod and two sheets of film to the diorama and then make two exposures, both of which would be usable. No exposure meter just open the shutter, count to five and cover the lens, move the light and do it again. |

Cool Zed shots. I am restoring a KZ400 now and have the headlight bucket and gauge cluster from the bike in your picture waiting to go on it (patina and all). |
