All 03-07 XB's use the same VR, try calling American Sport Bike to see if they have one in stock, they can overnight ship one.

Art, let me check my inventory of parts from my 2003 XB9s. I doubt I could get it to you sooner than Wednesday, though.

Any shunt regulator capable of supporting the bikes power should work to get you home. Most Japanese bikes use them.

Even an undersized one may work for a while if you slap a big heat sink and big fan on it, keep the high beam on and eating power, and don't ride at high RPM. So if you find a UJM shop or junkyard nearby, you might find soemthing to get you home.

I was stranded there in '79 on my BMW with the bad alt rotor. The dealer there didn't have one in stock and he took one out of a new bike on the showroom floor!

I was just there last week for work and left on Wednesday.

I suggest eating at Cecilia's Cafe if you have some time while you're there...

Good luck, I can't help you out from Wisconsin, I don't have XB parts.

I read a ride report on ADVrider where a guy had the alternator go out on an old Honda. He bought a new auto battery and a battery charger. The auto battery would power everything for a good ~8 hours of riding, then he'd re-charge the battery in the hotel at night (in Mexico!).

If you get desperate, you could do something similar, strapping the auto battery on your passenger seat. Hopefully you'll find a VR.

I did the same thing with friends car when the alternator shat itself.

My Alfa 164 had it's battery in the boot (sorry I mean trunk) so we left a battery charging through jump leads on mine & just swapped them over onto his when necessary.

If you can't get a VR it might be the easiest way to get home.

There's a few NM Badwebbers in the BRAN have you called any of them?

I've seen the car battery in the saddlebag trick done on a friends shovelhead 1 trip back from Sturgis years ago.
