>>> snipped and cut the day I turned 18 - these genes die with me. Y'all are welcome

It's reversible. Get it repaired; get married, and raise a strong family.

Then I'll thank you.

nope, not breeding. entirely not enough chlorine in my end of the pool.
Faulty Genetics and dysfunction abound in the branches of my famdamily - and that is just the side I know about.

I get to be the Uncle - that is as close as I get to kids.

Cityxslicker, ya done a brave thing & will not question your judgment but am entitled to ask why it it the people whom seem most qualified to RAISE(not considering genetics here, just child rearing) never seem to have any?
Makes me sad, but their lives, their choice.

I am far from qualified - I lead a life that is at best hung together by bailing wire and duct tape; I follow my whim at any instance, I will chase across the states for no other reason than to eat a bacon burger - I will disappear for weeks on end, deployed for months on end, and return disconnected, out of sync and embittered with the whole f'n affair of this charade we paint upon each other
Depression requires looking up somedays - it is not a life that I would want to torture a kid with.
I knew it early - I am not parent material - not all wood is equally bouyant; besides - it is not likely that the dearth of human experience will die off or change because I did not procreate, not even remotely.
In the grand scheme of things - we are just one notch above sentient livestock.
In 100 years none of this will make a whit of difference - hell for most of it - ten minutes would have the same affect.

See? Those we as a society would prefer to reproduce, don't. Those we could use less of, the ones that are multigenerational dependent, like rabbits.

In Europe, many nations are in serious decline, simply because they are not having babies enough to replace the existing population. While the Green Church welcomes the decline in population, ( better off without Humans, you know ) the basic math is such that the fewer young folk have a growing tax burden to support the aging rest. Most medical care costs are in the last 6 months.

Combine that with a growing propaganda trend to abandon the tradition of supporting the old wise ones of the tribe, expect euthanasia to be far more popular than paying for nursing homes.

To be fair, the old ones may not hold the tribal wisdom, as they once did. Back in the bad old days, if you lived to over 50, you probably were pretty on the ball.

Today, not so much.

While I'm sure all of you possess wisdom needed by the young, we are a minority.

The other rising problem is the importation of people to tax for the wave of old folk. The trouble is they are not welcomed into society as equals, and tend to establish ghettos... Never a good sign.

While it is currently popular to consider America a racist country, Recall Europe is the place where the terms Pogrom, and Holocaust were born. In Germany, for example, only racial Germans can have full citizenship. The French do it different, but the ghettos there ( different name, of course ) are full of foreign people expected to work to support a system they cannot truly be part of. Almost enough to make you understand the growing radical element. I'd be a bit radical too.

Of course these thoughts are too close to the Eugenics arguments of the 19th & 20th centuries. You should remember how that all turned out.... and if you don't, you have no idea what kind of ride you are on.

DAMN! So we've gotten to the economic argument that it's just cheaper to kill people than to provide health care!

this is a comment from that linked article:

"the white population as a whole is too intelligent and educated to return to serfdom

but, if you do a poor job educating them, and introduce mass numbers of ignorant people, you can jump a few steps to that utopian goal of complete government control

if you understand the fabian socialists goals ( commie, socialists, progressives, ) this closely mirrors their origional plan

dumb them down, eradicate the unwanted , rile them up, then decimate them when they rise up............they will then beg someone to make it stop"

sounds pretty close what i see from that and other actions by the elected officials in this country.

I realize in the short term this will pose a huge problem... but you've got to agree that in the long term this is a very positive change, no?

I know several folks (baby boomer generation) that tell me (kid of baby boomer), in today's world, they wouldn't have kids. Too many unknowns... too many issues.

I hear that too, but if you don't have kids, 'they' will. 'They' will outnumber you (and your ideals), which will over rule your way of life.

So we've gotten to the economic argument.....

That argument is a century old. The Progressive Movement.

George Bernard Shaw thought each person should be annually summoned before a board to determine their worth to society.

Socialized medicine, by it nature, must control costs. Less sickness, less cost. Less people, less cost. Simple. Not good, but simple. That's exactly what Sebelius means by savings......

The most expensive people to give health care to are the old ones. The last half year is the most expensive. When they start to trim the costs at the most expensive end of the bell curve, how will that work out?

Since there is pressure to make abortion a mandatory coverage, will care for the elderly become Really late term abortions?

Oh, I know it's an old argument. I just didn't think we would hear it spoken out loud so soon. Not during this election season anyway.

People are ALL on the wrong side of the abortion debate.

Conservatives should see that by and large we can reduce the liberal gene pool by advocating abortion.

The Liberals should be against abortion since the offspring would become a new generation of Governmentally-dependent.

You joke about that steve, but that exact observation was a key revelation that changed me from young and liberal to old and conservative.

If the liberal narrative being fed to me by schools and various media was correct, conservatives would be for abortion like flies on &*&^, and liberals would be outraged opponents of genocide and murder of the most vulnerable, and lined up 20 deep for every unwanted child giving them homes.

But they weren't. And it cracked the foundations of the illusion I was living under.

Sifo, as Nobel Prize winning Economist Paul Krugman says...

( a title I assume means that his ideology matches the Nobel Committee's, and, since it's Economics, not Chemistry, is an award for witchcraft... and not the kind that works. Can you tell I have a low opinion on the so called science of Economics? )

Only Obama's Death Panels can save the economy, by making the rules for rationing of healthcare. Deciding who will Die so the State may Prosper.

BTW, the "Death Panel" Meeting now IIRC, will NOT be making case by case decisions. You will be condemned to death by a computer program and the Death Panel will determine the parameters of the programming.

Yes, Skynet will determine your fate. Your Parents Fate, and your Children's.

The 'quality review committee for economic outcomes' does indeed have national directives for limiting care, and treatment availabilities.
It is not 'unplugging' YOUR grandma - it is denying the treatments across the board to all grandmas.
why else would you need a 13 member panel that has an economist, sociologist and a 'diversity' member to it for instances of HEALTH care ( that should be between, you, your doctor and YOUR pocket book)

Suck it up - that generation wrote themselves a peach of a golden parachute - they should get to enjoy all the fruits of that to its fruition - I am sick of paying for the entitlements.

In Choctaw culture - when you were too old to hunt, lead, or move with tribe - you walked off into the wilderness so as not to be a burden on the rest of the members.

Evolution in action.

It seems obvious in retrospect.

The sneaker company comes out with a new, record breaking price, and you get a line of people waiting to buy the new, most stupidly priced ego-shoes.

You are a thief, and knowing that you go where the money is, you realize there will be a line up of richer, stupid people. Of course you go rob the line! ( richer and stupid are, of course, relative terms... but people buying $300+ shoes because they are "new" qualify in most places )
