Got the rear wheel spacing all sorted out. QTMI (the brake and wheel supplier) and I disagree on the front wheel fitment. They say the front wheel fits the bike as is and I say no way! The holes in the wheels spacers are at least 2-3mm too big for the axle. It's nothing a good machinist wouldn't be able to solve in 5 minutes but I would prefer to have all Marchesini factory parts that match. So we will see how that turns out. Engine still looks dope. I may have to put the project on hiatus for a week or two for two reasons. One, as stated before I screwed up on the welder purchase. I bought a Lincoln V350 Construction model and thought I was buying the V350 Factory model. The difference is the factory model has a 6 and 14 pin connector to work with this nice new wire feeder. So, I have the feeder and a welder that it won't work with. I found a factory model V350 for $200 more than I paid for my current V350 but it isn't in as good of shape. I might just buy that and sell mine but I hate having all that extra cash tied up in an unusable welder so I need to get rid of it ASAP. The feeder box thatworks with the construction model is IMO a piece of shit. I've used one a few different times and always hated it. The feeder I posted above is so nice and smooth. I'm pumped to have one of my own. It will be worth the wait once I get my welder screw up rectified. The second reason for a quick break, there is a shop for rent that is literally five doors up the street from my rental house. It is a 35x50 building with three big drive through bays. The best part is the guy wants $300 a month! Why? Well the outside is in shambles I don't care though because check out the inside! The outside is nothing a long weekend of labor can't clean up and it gets me killer deal on a huge workshop that is within walking distance from my bed. So I may be moving the bikes and tools up there in the near future and getting set up in that shop. Plus I need to replace the exhaust gasket in my Zuma. I haven't ridden that in 3 weeks and I miss the damn thing. |

I've had a fancy for another stroker for a while now, & been hankering for something to go drag racing with too. I was thinking of a Banshee with a T-REX 480 kit. Now I'm really going to be in trouble, & so are you when I tell the wife it's all your fault. |

Very high output Banshee motors (nitrous) tend to seize 1st and second gear without some minor modifications to improve oiling. Drag racing them (especially street racing for huge money) is very popular around here. Some of them are unbelievably fast. |

Have you fitted the engine to the chassis yet? |

Grumpy, when women start yelling at me I leave, tune them out, and generally ignore them. I also never apologize. So I'm not scared. Yes, I'm single. Also, I take great pride in leading people to make poor motorcycle related decisions. Fast, this is a mild build on the motor. I'll be running 32:1 premix in the engine with high quality synthetic. Tranny should be no problem with its own oil. Fingers crossed that it stays in one piece! Teeps, haven't fitted it. I've just been staring at it, taking measurements, and drawing plans to try and tackle this part in the most efficient way possible. Don't worry. I'll have pics up in no time once the motor is up in there. |

Gs, I've built a frankenbike or 3 in my day. So I offer this advice: If this has not been done before, then do yourself a favor and get the engine hung first. Getting the Counter Shaft placed correctly in relationship to the swing arm pivot and the chain line is the first thing has to get sorted. |

Yep, that's what I'm referring to in my taking measurements. Everything in my mind right now is centered around the output shaft. |

I've been watching a few youtube videos featuring the banshee. I am thinking you are going to have a ton of fun once you get it all put together! Doing a track day on it would be high on my list... |

I used coat hangers to initially hang the engines in my projects. 1/4" plywood can make good mock up mounts, too. |

I put a case saver in today. I'm kind of stuck right now as QTMI is not too keen on answering the phone or returning voicemails. I need to get the wheels finalized as the front sprocket needs to have something to line up with! QTMI thinks my wheels should fit as is. The rear fits fine from an axle and brake perspective. The sprocket though is 1/2" off. It needs to be moved out by 1/2". The front wheel is way off. They say they fit but the axle is a good 3mm smaller than the spacers ID. I might just put 1/2" of washer under the sprocket to get that lined up temporarily and hope they call me back to finalize the fitment sometime before spring. I found the proper welder (I think) on ebay but I wont make the same mistake twice. The won't answer my question just to confirm that there is a 6 and 14 pin connection on the front. IF I could get those two items to gain some traction I should be off to the races again. If anyone has a bent cradle laying around (a long shot on a Buell forum)I would be interested in buying it. I am going to cut, add to, weld, modify a screwed up cradle (hopefully) to make the roughdraft cradle to take measurements from. Then I'll use the current cradle I bought to make a pretty one for the final iteration. I need some black X fork guards too. I have a bunch of extra parts that I will have no need for so if you are looking for something odd, PM me. I may have it. |

Well this is the first major project I've done as a former welding shop employee. Its weird to not have all the metal i need for a motorcycle projet sitting in a scrap bin. Looking for good sources of steel and aluminum. I'm leaning towards using www.metalsdepot.com anyone have any thoughts about them or alternatives? Thanks. |

That's one hell of a case saver. Is it made of Delrin? I remember my friend's old Honda 350X three wheeler had a case saver but it was a puny little sheetmetal thing held on with two screws. I think his chain tested it and tore it off along with the mounting screws. But it DID save the case |

Took a break this weekend to get some inspiration at the Barber museum. Wasted my time on this last weekend. I'll get more done when it cools off. I ordered some steel pipe to build my "measurement" cradle. I also ordered some 1/8" x 1" flat bar and DOM tubing to make my "final" cradle. Should be here mid week and I can get more serious about aligning the engine. The replacement welder I thought I found was actually the same as mine so I am still looking for a Lincoln V350 factory model. If you see one let me know! |

I'd LOVE to make it back to the Barber facility someday- I've always wanted to go during their fall Vintage Days shindig... The day after we were at the 1125R intro, on and off the track (BEST day of work EVAAARR BTW), we took the time to go visit the museum. From the time they opened, to finally viewing the last eye-popping exhibit, we were done about 3:30ish. I hear that they have a library/archive that you can visit by appointment- THAT would be a rainy day well spent. I had forgotten to go drool over the Britten- while I was alone doing that, my other 2 buddies got a chance meeting with Mr. Barber himself! Dang the luck, but oh well... Post more pics if ya got'em... you DO have more, right?!

Muchas gracias mi amigo!! I noticed that the regular routine was this: Walk up to a machine, eyes buggin and jaw dropping, read the plaque whilst wiping back drool, walk around the machine, then go to the next one and repeat. When we were there, we started at the top level, working our way down to the basement/workshop area. Following the above routine, it almost took the whole dang day! I wonder- couldn't really tell, but was the EBR displayed with the Buells? Didn't look to be the case, and I bet the Barber folks were smart about its placement... |

The Buells seem to be the best represented brand in the museum based on the number of bikes that are actually in existence (my mental not at all scientific opinion. They are close but not all together. More like in little packs. Slick's bike is the only isolated Buell, it's with other racers. The rest have Buell friends nearby. |

Getting moved into to the new shop! The CB360s were the first to go. CB360 x2 I bought this killer new chain to lock my Buell to my R1. So if they want to steal a bike they will have to take both of them! ... Wait that seems worse? Kryptonite Forgetaboutit Steel for the cradle and the gas tank should be here tomorrow. I found a WR450 rolling chassis in Virginia that I am going to pick up on Saturday. I am going to use it's radiators, handguards, and possibly something with its triple trees. I'm going to part out the rest. It will be cool to say I have four Yamahas now. |

Finally a bit of real progress! Cut and punched the plates for the top mounts of my "measurement" cradle. Met some Ducati guys for dinner Ducati dinner Came back to the shop and started to set up "Yamaha Corner" (With a Buell) eventually. Yamaha Corner I'm going to pick up the WR450 tomorrow. That will be for the radiators, triple trees, and hand guards. I'll just part out the rest. So let me know if you need some parts from a 2003 WR450. |

I can do that. The seat that came off it is in really good shape. Everything else needs a wash to get the dirt off. Started on the measurement cradle. Despite not having my welder sorted out I thought for sure I could get the plates and pipe tacked well enough to hold the cradle and motor in place to measure up my nice cradle. Turns out, I was wrong. I just couldn't get my friend's little 110 buzz box to get penetration I was comfortable with. I really need to bite the bullet and just buy another V350 even though the one I have hasn't sold yet. Found some lightly used GYTR titanium footpegs on ebay for a real good price so I threw those one there. Amazing how much lighter they are than stock for such a small part. Nice piece. Here is one of how the shop is coming. Got my brothers beetle in there as well. Cool little car. Similar to the rug in The Big Lebowski, it really ties the room together.
