OK good BW peeps- the day has come, and as of about an hour ago, I sold my beloved CityX to a good kid.

Thanks to Spike240 (Nick), this kid and I got together today and did the deal. It was good for him and good for me. This is reality...

What transpired while I was waiting for him to arrive was this: I gathered all the required swag, threw in some extra, found the parts that needed to do, kept the mementos that I needed, double-checked things, found a few more things to go... then I pulled up my favorite outdoor chair, cracked open a beer, and waited.

During the time spent waiting, I just looked at and admired my good riding buddy- I've gone places, done things, seen sights and met people I'd never EVAAR gotten the chance, had I not been on this faithful steed. I've had many a bike over the years, but few outside my TS125 or my R65 meant as much as this one.

I sat there wondering if it would be possible to give a Ulysses the Hero Blue treatment, or whether I could ever find a SS or STT someday. It was the right thing to do to sell it, to "pay it forward" so to speak, but...

I'm sad. Melancholy. I wouldn't be posting this had I not become "Buell Brad" or just "squids" or that moron riding too fast with permagrin.

My life has changed today. I've still got an old '79 GL1000 to ride, with its own charms, but I'll not have a bike to "plug" into my nervous system and mind, like the XB, for some time yet.

What to do?

I post this as kind of an obit:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a nice Buell XB9SX ("CityX) for sale- I've not ridden it much this year, and have some household projects that need attention...
2005 is the first year for this model, it has the original "Hero Blue Translucid" bodywork, and is essentially stock. The odometer is somewhere around 23K-24K miles, and I have replaced the original motor with a stout running XB9S motor from an '03 bike (the original motor developed a "spun" bottom end bearing)- this motor actually feels stronger than the original.
Modifications/add-ons include: Ventura 45 liter soft luggage, also the Ventura sport rack- Buell accessory expandable tank bag, Stebel "Nautilus" horn, header wrap, 1" taller bar risers, Buell accessory streetfighter seat, Third Eye bar-end mirrors. I have an unwrapped NOS blue flyscreen, bought new from the factory- my original screen has a cut-out to let the Stebel horn shout properly. Lots of tastefully applied stickers, plus a couple of signatures from good ol' Erik Buell himself. Tires are currently a Pirelli Angel front, a Michelin Pilot 2CT rear, both at least 75% or better. I have both the original owner's manual AND the factory shop manual, plus a new, never installed set of front brake pads.
Flaws: The right side frame puck/protector took a hit when some drunk douche canoe leaving a bar downtown pushed her over- the front brake lever and handguard were both tweaked a bit too. And it's a bit dirty.
For REAL riders, those who place a premium on incredible handling, soul-stirring character, the torque of a V-Twin, and the rumble of a hotted-up H-D motor, this bike is for you.
For squids, meatheads who focus only on "how fast can I go?, or whether it can be stretched, slammed, or blinged out, go defenestrate yourself. Also, it is a sin against God and all that is good to strip a bike like this and ruin it with a "Redneck Chopper" abomination or some other kind of polished, rolling turd.
Serious inquiries only- NADA blue book lists this bike for around $3770, I've priced it fairly, will negotiate A LITTLE, but you better bring the better part of thirty Benjamins. You can reach me by cel at 865-seven one 9-one four 66.
SCAMMERS/SPAMMERS DON'T WASTE MY TIME. Dante Aligheri never envisioned a spot in Hell for the likes of you, but I'm sure accommodations have been made by now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yes, silly at it might be, I'm a little moist.

Looking forward to the future with EBR!!! Otherwise, I don't know how long I can stand a 1 bike garage.

Guess I'll fiddle with the boat more now.

Sorry the Buell is gone. In the meantime, ride the heck out of that GL1000!

Maybe find one of those blower kits to go on it too...

I'm already wanting to throw $$$ at the chassis and suspension, LOL!

Unbelievable.

In the space of time above, I heard a song from WDVX, recorded live this week, otherwise not available because I just spoke with the station owner- it was a new song, structured like "'53 Vincent", but it was about the Isle of Man...

DANG.

Sorry to hear this. There would certainly be a hole in my garage if my Buell had to go. A good friend just picked up a GL1100. What a comfortable bike! Nothing at all like my Buell though. It's still a way to get your knees in the breeze though.

These Buell motorcycles have been and still are a soul stirring machine. They become a part of you. Seldom do you hear words of a sad departure about letting go of a Yamaha or a Honda. Sometimes you hear it from an HD rider when he lets go, but too often that is because his payments are too high.

I too had a 2005 City-X when they first came out, also in Translucent Blue. Then a few months later the Uly showed up on the scene, and all bets were off. But to say how I felt about the City-X.....well it sat un-used in my shed for three months before I could sell it. I had to be sure the Uly would stand in it's place.

I bought my '06 Uly from Brad. He was the most proud salesman to be selling Buell motorcycles I had met. I watched him use his City-X to take customers on their target bikes for demo rides. Buells, HD's and used bikes alike, he would haul them down his "test drive track" behind that blue City-X, proud as could be.

Brad called me tonight to tell me of his sale.....and without the words.....one way or another I know that there will be another Buell in his garage fairly soon.

I believe he has joined the team of folks who have sold their Buells to find themselves saying "what the hell did I do that for!"

Brad, you will be back!

Brad-

Greg actually called me to let me know you'd posted the bike for sale when my internet access was spotty on my journey earlier this summer. My response was "noooooooooo!"

The sale is bittersweet and I'm so sorry you let it go. Like Vern, I sold mine when we got the 2nd Uly, but while riding solo (sans the boy) in the rockies earlier this summer, I would've traded my eyeteeth for my old city-x. As awesome as the Ulys are, that bike was the most fun I'd owned. Period.

If you were not riding it, its best that it went to a deserving home.

Hope you continue to hang out here and your SS or STT finds you.

Squid,

Hope you turned the new owner on to Badweb. The only way to get the full Buell experience...

The CityX was the best sledgehammer for what ever I wanted to pound. Pavement, gravel, wagon track, forest service roads, sport biking, long tourin, pack mule.

the only thing I disliked about it was the ground clearance.... but that was because of the way I rode.

Waiting anxiously for the Griffin - the piggy bank is already started.

Thanks for the kind words Vern, et al...

Yeah, someday I'll pick up another one fo sho! I pop a chubby every time I see a sano S3T- there's something about the tubers that is uber-sexy in a different way than the XB's or Loki's. And although I put over 28K miles on that CityX, it could never be as comfortable to me as a Ulysses, SS or X/XT bike...

I called my other Buell buddy, he picked up one of the last SS's, in the best color, the Cherry Bomb. Left a message, told him that if the day should ever come, let me have first shot at his bike. I seriously doubt he'll ever sell the thing- it replaced the 12S that got totalled when a teenage girl ran him over, but he kept the salvage bike- someday he's got a mad plan to replicate the turbo XB that we've heard about.

As far as "what did I do that for?!"- yep, I kinda feel that way, especially as I watched the kid roll out of my driveway, wearing my old Vanson gear, on MY BIKE!!!

Of course, with the wad of $$$ I ended up with, I can get a slew of things done around here. Got my new dog several weeks ago, now I can properly fence in the yard for the dawgies- should be able to swing a new roof for the house now- fix up the last few things for the boat- I really should take the time to make a list and prioritize. So the practical thing has been done. MUST STAY AWAY FROM CRAIGSLIST'S M/C SECTION...

I did make it clear that he should head here to BW- I'll call him again today sometime to check in on him and reiterate the importance of this site. As a salesman and as a seller of my personal bikes, I can't help but give a damn WHO I sell to- when I sold the Shovel it properly went to an old 1%'er, and with the XB, I feel that this kid will do right by the old machine. I told him that I rarely ever had met a kid his age who had the right mindset for these bikes- Lord knows I met countless meats in the past, cringing inwardly as I tried in vain to erase their ignorance regarding all things Buell.

Once again, I am proud to be a member of the Buell community- to a person, each BW'er I've met over time has been great- once even met Buellgrrl, and believe it or not, she WAS cool in person! I'll still be looking in on things here everyday, as it's a big part of my daily routine... the day WILL come when I get to post...

I'm BAAACK!!
