It's been a grueling couple months getting all of my shadowing, demo practices and the final 8-day training class all done, but it's all finished, I have my certificate and range shirt. I got the feeling, based on feedback from the other Coach candidates and the instructor that I was a standout on the range. I little stiff in the classroom but still got the job done. Scheduled to coach the first weekend in Sept with my sponsor and I'm looking forward to it! |

That's great to hear, good buddy! One of my great friends here in Mur-vil TN has been a long-time coach, now the coordinator of the Rider's Edge program at Smoky Mountain HD... he says his best weapon/tool to use as a rider coach is a sense of humor. Most of the newbies coming in are nervous as can be, so a sharp wit and a good laugh can make most anyone much more at ease... I could probably hook youn's up via email if you wanna- this guy is a certifiable nut, but a true blue good guy to know too. |

Good job, Mark! Welcome to our ranks; this is my 19th year. JaimeC has been doing it a tad longer (20?). It's a way to give back to the sport and practice besides. I believe I still learn a bit more each class I teach... |

Thanks, guys. I may be getting involved in a program with the NY MSF program as well that will educate other road users about motorcycles, that sounds incredibly interesting but it all depends on my colleague's ability to secure the grant money for it. Hammer - I e-mailed the two schools closest to me sometime in 2010 and neither were looking. By December of last year the one had kept my email and called me back asking if I was still interested, and the other had 3 or 4 guys at the RiderCoach prep course (my sponsor has added 5 new coaches this year). According to the program manager at dinner the last night of class, New York is short on coaches, so it may pay off to look into it again. |

Congrats Mark, As a rider coach you will get to meet all types of riders and get to hear their stories.coaching regularly will make you a better rider. I have been a coach for 8 years with the Pennsylvania Motorcycle safety program and find it very rewarding to help people learn. Most importantly I take great delight in helping new students learn how to ride. It's a great feeling knowing the students leave the class knowing more than when they began or when new riders leave being able to ride well enough to continue to safely learn. Good luck and I hope you get the same feelings of satisfaction and reward. |

I wish I was still certified.......it all comes down to being in a program that you can work with/for. Enjoy it! |

Congrats and welcome! One of the coolest things about the job is the feeling of satisfaction for making a positive difference in someones life. A close second is all the interesting people you get to meet that you may not have otherwise. Motorcycling attracts people from all walks of life, and you'll now get to facilitate their learning of a new motor skill. Have fun and try to work with as many different coaches as possible. Different ranges too if you can. It'll help you grow as a coach. |

I have been a coach for just over a year, the teaching is fun. It is great when you can see the light bulb come n with some of the students. One of the most important things is safety. For the students and for your self. It is easy to forget about your self out there don't forget to hydrate and take brakes for your self. I teach in Arkansas so it get ridiculously hot. Congrats and good luck. |
