With the news of Mr. Buell's expanded venture I am more interested in the projects that were scrapped and might see life again. What is known about the Griffin (especially) or other models that did not reach full production? |

^^^^ Not true ! Theres a whole posting Rooster Channel devoted to the dirty beast that 'never' existed. and I am sure Court is hoarding several stories that we will have to remind him about sometime. until then - Drool over at US Highlands , Aprilia, KTM, Benelli, BMW (as we were weeks away from the Cagivia buyout on that set up before it went the way of Husky/BMW before the MV Augusta fiascio - of course that will never be confirmed nor denied by any, but that 450 swapped hands many times in a three month period before she became BMW . and of course Hero Moto has a dirty bike..... |

>>>> or other models that did not reach full production? I actually did a chapter, when Dave and I wrote 25 Years of Buell, on "rare and unusual Buells". With a lot of help from 1313 and some of the other R&D Elves who kept their photos, it was a fun summary of things ranging from the Peter Max S3, the turbo and some other interesting exercises. Like the bikes . . . the chapter was "close, but no cigar". |

Court, have you seen what the books are going for on Amazon? Might I suggest a reprint with additional chapters up until the end of Buell. |

"Theres a whole posting Rooster Channel devoted to the dirty beast that 'never' existed. " Could you explain this more, is that a website or what? I do remember reading in an article not too long ago about a MX sort of coach that apparently had one of his riders that was a tester for the bike. It was a brief paragraph in an article in cycle world or motorcyclist, cant remember which and I think I threw the issue away. It'd have been nice to see what he (erik) came up with, how it competed against the others, how much crap it caught from the dirt world (vs how much street ones get) I know there were some patents posted and it looked interesting, like gas under the seat if Im not mistaken. We'll see what comes in the future. I'd love to have a Griffin style bike from EBR someday |

got any pictures of the Peter Max S3? Here's a teaser (that I didn't take):
I know Court's got better pics. Maybe the one above is one of his that he shared with me. Here are a few that I believe were saved off eBay when the bike was listed there (~2003):
Hard to believe, but I didn't take any pics of it in the factory when the bodywork was being installed... 1313 |

Never would have thought that would be a factory bike. How was the theme chosen for the Peter Max bike chosen? And who painted it? |

no no the EB version was pure Rotax, new from the ground up - check over in the Rooster threads, I think there was a photo of a prototype... or one rumored to be the proto the BMW timing was weird The bike and plant started as Cagiva - which was owned by MV Augusta but it was offsold to Husky prior to Harley buying the MV branch, and then weeks later it went from Husky to BMW ; that motor is now what powers there 450 x dirty ride. but for about two weeks the overlap was enough to keep me sleep less - we almost had a light dirt bike in the corral. |

Never would have thought that would be a factory bike. A Harley Springer Softail - called MXN8R - was also done at the same time:
The story at the time was they were the only 2 bikes he'd ever 'done'. And who painted it? Not sure if it's *proof*, but an artist always signs his work doesn't he?
Sometimes even twice... 1313 |

I misunderstood. I thought it was a tribute and did not realize that it was an original. Pretty neat. |

This motor was in the Griffin (with mods to the charging system to make it lighter/narrower. (and possibly mods for more power).I want a super mono type bike with one in it.

I know that there are some great pictures and stories of the Griffin being held behind the curtain; I hope they make the second book in the Buell Legacy.... Even better if they make the Sales Brochure and the showroom floor ! I want to Believe ! |

My guess is as close as anyone. I was told by someone (remind me to tell you about it some day) that the rotax 450 motor was used with different charging/ignition and narrower cover. I was also told that it might even be possible to get those components if you knew the right person to call . If I am off the mark on this one, please feel free to correct my error. |

Hate to revive an old thread, but the I have been searching for pictures of the Peter Max S3 for years. I saw the bike in the Santa Cruz HD/Buell dealership every time I went in there. It was in that store for a long time (they had a mini museum there) and loved it. Does anyone know where it is today? |
