We the people...
a.) pay their salaries, benefits, pensions
b.) must show/tell them our business but they don't

Our Founding Fathers warned us about this in their "old worn out documents". They said standing armies are not healthy for a free society! Isn't that what we've become since 9/11. How is this different than an Islamic state where you have to prove you are one of them?

I warned GWB, my Governor, my US reps, my state reps that I feared this is what it would become. It has and will continue to expand until we the people have had enough!

Had enough yet?

We become more conditioned each day to accept things like this. Someone please tell me what civil liberties Americans have gained in the last 3 years? I think some people think civil liberties equates to kissing someone of the same sex in public while wearing a thong. This is the hope and change they believe in.

About 25 years ago I'm riding in the back seat of a Polski Fiat in Wroclaw, Poland with an American woman. Two Polish friends in front. Police checkpoint, she starts getting belligerent in an American sort of way at the very thought, was going to make a scene. I said to her (that) if she didn't STFU, the trip might be over and it could be very difficult for our friends.
The two Poles were used to it, waited while the police walked around the car, told the driver a tail light wasn't working, wrote a citation which had to be paid on the spot, and we were off.
Okay, it was a typical shakedown to pad their pockets, and part of their normal course of events. The two Poles didn't speak, we didn't speak, the state operated the way it does on that level, the police didn't know we were Yanks, and life continued, minus some cash for the ticket.

The American woman, being a liberal, has probably shifted her take on such activities here as being for the good of the Administration.

Anyway, since The East won the Cold War, and a Marxist directs that nasty Janet Napolitano to interfere with us, I gotta' hand it to the guy for not only refusing the ruse, but for making and posting his video.

Civil disobedience, or turn about on the Left, is fair play...

It's an interesting subject, and a good example/reason for learning who you are, and about jurisdiction.

The difficult part is that the guys manning the checkpoints are 'just doing their job'. In many cases they are good people, could be your neighbour or someone from this forum.

Contract: the elements of a contract

The first step in a contract question is always to make sure that a contract actually exists. There are certain elements that must be present for a legally binding contract to be in place.

The first two are the most obvious:

* An offer: an expression of willingness to contract on a specific set of terms, made by the offeror with the intention that, if the offer is accepted, he or she will be bound by a contract.
* Acceptance: an expression of absolute and unconditional agreement to all the terms set out in the offer. It can be oral or in writing. The acceptance must exactly mirror the original offer made.
* A counter-offer is not the same as an acceptance. A counter-offer extinguishes the original offer: you can’t make a counter-offer and then decide to accept the original offer! But…
* A request for information is not a counter-offer. If you ask the offeror for information or clarification about the offer, that doesn’t extinguish the offer; you’re still free to accept it if you want.

Facing the same thing with random police traffic checkpoints, I decided to try and educate myself, but life is simpler when you just comply. That is what 'they' are counting on. Unfortunately, I don't do comply very well. Today, every interaction is covered by contract law, and only persons contract.

What if they came to your house, asked if you had any guns, and if you replied in the affirmative they demanded that you turn your guns over to them?

"But they're legal firearms, and I'm legally entitled to own and possess them!!" you exclaim.

At which point you notice a dozen red dots dancing in the middle of your chest.

Couldn't happen in America, though...........right?!?

@ 1:13: "No one [except the 'authorities,' of course] will be able to be armed":

Yabbut, this is America, and we've got rights!!

Yeah, we do, and thank the good Lord for that. But what if a cadre of UN "peacekeepers" was manning the checkpoint, or banging on your door with weapons drawn? Do THEY have to abide by our Constitutional rights?

Yabbut, I don't happen to see any UN "peacekeepers" wandering around.

Yeah? Well, keep your powder dry:

quote:

U.N. Agreement Should Have All Gun Owners Up In Arms
It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesn’t approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty” premised to fight “terrorism”, “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates” you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms.

...Have no doubt that this plan is very real, with strong Obama administration support. In January 2010 the U.S. joined 152 other countries in endorsing a U.N. Arms Treaty Resolution that will establish a 2012 conference to draft a blueprint for enactment. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pledged to push for Senate ratification.

More 4th amendment fodder - San Francisco mayor Ed Lee is considering a NYC-style "stop and frisk" policy.

In regards to the first video, what is the legality of refuseing to stop? Yes, we all think it's wrong and unconstitutional, but can they arrest you, detain you?

They can arrest you but they have to charge you first. What could they charge you with?
Of course he was filming it since he wanted the evidence just in case it went that way.

That checkpoint is a pathetic joke anyways.
They just want a verbal Yes/no?

You guys who voted for a President who promised to transform America might have checked out what he wanted to transform American into.

You mean by lying to the American people, Congress and the U.N. about weapons of mass destruction, so that the U.S. could invade a country that was no threat to us?
Or maybe by creating Concentration Camps that used torture to gain information from prisoners?
Or Creating the American Gestapo A,K.A. the Department Of Homeland Security?
Yeah, that must be it! Oh wait; the Previous Administration did that. Well; it must be the present Administration's fault, anyway! They're the ones who are trying to take away our freedoms!

Tired of the slanted rhetoric, and tired of hearing that Mitt Romney presents a viable, qualitative and quantitative difference from the current administration, and from those of recent past.
The problems are bigger than farcically elected chief executive buffoons; the latter are only symptoms of the greater malaise.

Xdigitalx: So we're supposed to surrender our constitutional rights so we don't offend? Really?!?

Would you describe the Founding Fathers as "pissants" and "dushbags," too?

If this is such a police state...why hasn't it happened yet???

It IS happening, step by step, right before our eyes. The fellow in the video is NOT the enemy.

Question: If the same officers in the video came to your home and asked if you were an American citizen, what would your response be?
