Michael was able to sit up on the edge of his bed for four minutes unassisted today. this is apparently a huge step forward. Way to go Mike! |

Any need or interest in setting up some kind or "work day"? I'm sure Shags homefront could use some support by now... mowing, repairs, leaves, painting, whatever.
I'd come up and pitch in for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. |

Hello everyone! Mike is still making very slow progress. He is still officially in the coma. This weekend his fellow UPS employees are throwing a benefit for his family. You are absolutely welcome to come there will be fellow motorcycle enthusiasts at the event. The silent auction will include numerous motorcycle related items. Sadly there is no marked change in his condition since my last post.

Wanted to let everyone know that Mike has made pretty good progress in the last week. They are taking him off the anti-seizure medications so he is waking more easily and becoming more lucid. He is now forming simple sentences and questions. The doctors have given some very positive feedback on his progress even to the point of suggesting that he may make a full recovery although it may be a long journey. Tonight is the fund raiser being put on by his fellow employees at UPS and I think it is going to be a rousing success. I will report back when I have more to tell.

Thanks for the donations! It is greatly appreciated. The fundraiser was a smashing success we think the total tally is somewhere close to $22,000.
They are moving Mike to a hospital in Columbus Ohio which is about 100 miles from home so this money will come in very handy for his wife to help defray some of the expenses of moving away from home for a little while.

It has been a while since I posted any news about Mike. Today is seven months to the day since the accident. He is making small steps forward. He is officially out of the coma. Not that it was a miracle recovery or anything. He is still in a chair with the only exception being therapy. They have actually had him standing between parallel bars with him holding onto the handles by himself. His current longest streak has been ten seconds, but its progress. His mind is good. It's running a little slow right now but the doctors tell us that its still "rebooting". They feel that he will mentally make a full recovery. He is not talking much and the doctors think that maybe his vocal cords are deflated. After the holidays they are going to perform a procedure to help re-inflate them so hopefully he'll be talking well again soon. We really appreciate all the well wishes. I hope everyone has a merry Xmas and as soon as Mike gets some mobility back in his fingers I'll get him a laptop and he can thank you himself.

Mike had a stroke last Sunday caused by the injuries from his accident. A portion of his brain stem was killed during the stroke. Last night he passed away. A good friend to many and a great husband and father he will be be missed. Ride on Mikey!
