My only experience in new bikes is with Harely dealers. At the time I was first looking to buy a new harley, the new ones cost LESS than the used ones. As time progressed and I still had not bought one, I watched this situation change. The used bikes lost a lot of value and the new ones were selling for more. When this happened, I found some dealers would have ridiculous fees, some would sell at MSRP and a lot acted like they were selling the best thing since sliced bread... Never bought a brand new harley. The only new bike I ever bought was an 08 Firebolt. I had 2 dealers close to me that were selling for LESS than MSRP, but their knowledge and service capabilities were pretty much non-existent. I travelled a bit further to a dealer that knows Buells and paid MSRP (don't recall if I paid freight and set up). A few months later I was unexpectedly "rewarded" with a VIP package to Homecoming '08. |

Dealer fees are part of the negotiation. Bought a new Civic yesterday, from a dealer. Transportation fee (I paid) $420 Dealer doc fees (I paid) $89 Tax rate and License fees are determined by the state and local gov; so are moot to this discussion. Bottom line, if you don't like the numbers and they won't change them. Go somewhere else... |

Each department of the dealership: Sales Service Finance Parts Accessories Is it's own profit center. None of them are designed to operate in the red. |

None of them are designed to operate in the red. True, but neither am I! |

Don't pay it. There are other dealerships and if not other bikes. It's a BS fee. I don't care what the people at the dealerships say. oh it's so the bike is put together for you. Oh well that's nice cause you won't sell many in boxes. |

Dealer fees on bikes are like baggage fees on planes. They charge for something that is needed, bike assembled & taking luggage with you. A fee that is not necessary but good for the bottom line of the company. |

I can tell you from 25yrs auto and motorcycle dealership experience that the manufacturer pays the DEALER for prep and set-up.That is why the lowest paid newbies do the work on prep. This because the manufacture repays the dealer in warranty labor rate times the labor hr. to do the job. So if the dealer receives $100 for the prep and a $8 per hr tech takes 2hrs.....that is another $80+ dollars in profit! You don't even want me to start telling the inside works of a new-car dealership, so MANY scams going on I could write a book.. |

Dave, Looking for an '11 leftover or '12 new. The $7700.00 USD quote was for a '12 I've got a quote on a leftover '11 of $5250.00 without tax and tags from a dealer in another state about 10 hours drive away (South Carolina). It was arranged by a friend who owns a Dual Sport M/C accessory shop in another state about 9 hours away(Tennesee) . (Isn't networking wonderful!?) I'm considering having it delivered to his shop so he can outfit it for me with panniers and nerfbars and such. I'll run down and pick it up with my trailer and spend a weekend with him riding around on his Yamaha TW200s.... I'm not stuck on any particular color. If I had to rank them I'd probably go with the Black first, Red second, and Blue last. But I looked at a Blue 2012 today and it looked really good to me. Better in person than in the literature. I do like the blacked out forks and swingarm on the 2012s, but not enough to spend an extra $2000 for it. (Message edited by rwven on June 26, 2012) |

Well guys, I went, I rapported (sic), and I didn't come home with a bike. Had a pleasant chat about bikes and such. His offer was $7714 and change, mine was $6700.00 (MSRP, tax and tags) He said $1000 was too big a gulf to bridge. I felt the same from my end so I didn't pursue it further. I've got other options.... |

Yeah - the black is really nice. In retrospect I would have gone for it, but I got mine for $Au7,500 'Ride away' because they were clearing the '11 stock. Another dealer up the coast matched that price - but was plus pre delivery and on road costs for a '12. So blue will do. |

I love rapportage We had a guy that would talk the customers ear off..... would build so much damn rapport he felt guilty for taking the guys money and 'advantage' of the customer.... but the old duffers that liked to talk and talk loved him - so he was a fixture at the store. Honestly - I am going to show and go you pretty quick, I was there to make money, friends second, damn I miss the economy. Probably the most fun job I ever had... that didn't involve blowing shiate up with ordinance or subverting some Russkies. |

F22raptor Posted on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 You don't even want me to start telling the inside works of a new-car dealership, so MANY scams going on I could write a book. You mean stuff like oil additives, fuel injector treatments, routine transmission flushes? I've been told that "it's not a scam, if you believe it works." |

Rwven- damn if you aren't talking about Francois and Megan's shop, no? When you DO get that bike, having them do the farkling session off the bat, then riding the trails around here, is a GREAT plan! They're good friends, and hands down the most serious, "gearhead's gearheads" I know. Good luck, and proceed with that plan when things get right! |

$7700 otd in full blown list on everything, nobody pays that do they? My dealer was down to $6000 otd the door on a leftover but I ended up with an 09 with 3800 miles for $3500. I work at a new car dealer in a small town and we don't have and funny charges when you buy a car from us. |

86129Squids, Francois and Megan are good people, I'm privileged to know them and be counted among their friends. I've already sent Francois a "Happy Trail" order. |

I ordered a new leftover 2011 KLR today. $5301 for the bike. No extra fees or hidden charges. As it's an out of state deal I'll be taking care of the taxes, titling and registration. That should come to @ $550. So $5851 OTD. That's a deal I can live with. Danger Dave, The one I'm getting is Candy Burnt Orange and Galaxy Silver. He couldn't find a black one. The photo of it on the Kawasaki website looks pretty good though. http://www.kawasaki.com/FusePlayerApi/ViewLargeIma ge.aspx?mediaID=171783 |

No, what I was talking about were the other departments that most people trust. F+I, used cars and service also....By the way, invoice and MSRP mean nothing, as the manufacture has many programs to get cars moving, only to reward ($) them for the # of cars sold. |
