The Belgian representing NATO for a test here at Aberdeen Proving Grounds knows Buell. We were discussing some of the hardware that loosened after multiple laps traversing the Munson off-road course. The vehicle system's threaded fasteners were all supposed to have been afixed using thread locker, but some were inadvertently missed. I explained that to avoid such problems in the future, that every fastener must have some marking applied immediately following application of thread locker, the marking to indicate as such and to ensure that all fasteners received the thread locker. I mentioned learning that same lesson on my motorcycle, a V-Twin that has an inherent imbalance. He asked what type it was. When I said Buell, he enthusiastically affirmed his familiarity with them and that they were popular in Europe among nake sport bike riders and customizers. Despite a few very minor hardware issues, he gave our vehicle/satcom system full approval. That Munson course is no kind mistress. Fun stuff! I'd really like to ride the Uly over it. Had to settle for shotgun in an F350. Asked what the lap record was. No one knew. An obvious oversight. The large ordinance detonating in the background added a nice touch. There's a thriving Buell community in Europe & has been for many years, so it's not that big a surprise to me. |
