It is really tight beside the transfer case. I have seen two into one, a small cat after the cross member, then a muffler and two tail pipes.
I recall a guy years ago made a true dual system, in the 70's, before cats, wherein he used really small tubes after the collectors, like 1 3/4", both over the cross member on the right side, then back to 2 1/2" from there on out. It is really tight if you want to stay within those frame rails. Even worse on a CJ5.
I got so close to working on my Jeep yesterday. I actually removed the three bolts from the radiator overflow jug so that I could mark and cut the new hole for the steering shaft.....then I had to go do other stuff. Damn!
YEEEHHAAWWWW!!!! I got to work a few hours on my Jeep! I now have new battery cables, ends, grounds, ignition wiring, and switches set up. Cranked her over and it fired right up!
Next up engine cooling and power steering pump.
This time I am going to go to a clutch fan and build a substantial fan shroud. The first time out had an old style solid four blade fan with minimal shrouding. It ran too hot for my liking.
Then I went to a brand new radiator with electric fans, one pushing and one pulling. I never liked the aftermarket fans. There were problems with mud and a lack of cooling when in the soup. One of them actually died when the blades were slowing down from mud packing. It was not enough to blow the fuse, but it eventually toasted the fan's motor.
I will have to make the shroud also be kind of a bottom splash pan to keep mucky muck from flying all over under the hood. Before, when I was in the soupy muck up over the headlights, there was an advantage to shutting the electric fans off.
I cannot wait to get this thing trail ready again! Excited would be a good word.
Hey Jim! I was incorrect about how my guy ran my exhaust. He did pipes on each side of the inside of the frame rails, crossing over behind the cross member to a single muffler. I will get you a picture of that.
This thing may not stop, but it will roll out of the shop under it's own power today!
My gauges came in this week and they're almost all completely installed.
Here's a video I may a couple of weeks ago. The residual oil is almost all burned off but in the video you can see the engine was still smoking a bit. It's running pretty clean now.
The one thing that surprised me was how loud the snorkel setup is. You can really hear the air being sucked in.
I would like to know WHY some jackwagon put a lift on my wifes Grand Cherokee.... had to go to wally world and get a drop hitch and the trailer is still not level...
Just gotta pick up a spare tire and I will be go to go for my trip to TN.
Hey- you two let me know what's going on tomorrow and Monday- I've got a cookout to go to at Rex Marsee's on Sunday, but may have some time Monday if youn's are still dicking around...
Brad we did not get pictures as neither of us wanted to step out into the mud. Mark heads home Sunday early am.
We had a great lap around from my place down rt 32, through Maggy Valley, the end of the BRP, lunch in Cherokee, on to the Cherohala and back down 360 then home, near 300 miles.
Didn't get to fix the spring mount we broke on the Jeep yet, so play time will have to wait.
Back in C-Bus about 2 today... ate and passed out in the chair. Had a great time Vern, Thanks for getting me out off the office for a nice long weekend of guy time.... Jeep'n, eat'n, riding, paint'n, eat'n, drink'n, sleep'n, more jeep'n, more eat'n... I now have my own gravity!
Thanks again for the paint work Vern. The boss is very happy!
Well.... it was cold and rain "WAS" in the forecast for today. SO... I get up a little early and put the hardtop back on.... then while I was driving to work today I got ye Ole drive line vibe from my belly up/slip yoke elimanator/new drive shaft mod. I guess the extra weight of the top made it squat enough to change the drive shaft angle and cause the vibe at speed. I guess new Johnny Joint control arms are in my future.
and for another kick in the groin...
The wife old Durango's rotor were shot and pulsing like my Uly front brake. Got to spend the evening installing new rotors and pads... WOOT!!
