Ok, I think there is a witch hunt on when it comes to me right now in regards to this. I am being told I am borderline with keratoconus yet no one has come out to say I have it. They just say I could develop it, but they don't know. So I do some research on my own to find out just what this is and who gets it. Everything I've read states that it is diagnosed in adolescence and onsets later. Talking with a specialist on this today I was told it's normally diagnosed in your 30's and progresses from there. Is that true? Also, being that my getting this or even with them feeling I could it can affect some career progression of mine. I'm a bit pissed and put out right now. No one is coming out and just saying, "yeah, you got it.". They just keep saying I have weird eyes (the specialist) and that I have an odd outlier that could mean I have it. The person even went so far as to say that I should be near sighted and that for some odd reason I'm far sighted with astigmatism. What the hell? I'm wondering, should I maybe be asking for a second opinion at this point or should I wait until after I get my consult with this person? Also, what about the above? |

What he said. It's like the difference between your local quack & a Cardiologist. Get a proper professional opinion. |

Agree with above. Especially if this could affect your career ambitions. Plus its your eyes and they don't make working fake ones of those. Yet. |

Actually, it was the ophthalmologist who was telling me this. Thinking second opinion time might be coming. I really hate, maybes, possibles, etc when it comes to these things. Either it is or it isn't. Don't guess and make that fact. |

Unfortunately much of medicine is gray not black and white. Insurance companies like black and white but our bodies don't always work like that. |

I can agree with that Dave. Problem being is the job wants black and white. I'm afraid the gray may make them take that as black, so to speak. I want the black and white for that purpose. |

Wait a sec, is this an Army opthamologist? We had a guy in our barracks who'd fallen through a skylight, had a scar from his gizzard to his shoulder. We said he had a Navy doctor remove his appendix. Are you still in Germany? Find a kraut eye doctor who speaks Engrish. |

Mox, yup, it is. If they don't have a second Army one available, I will push/demand for an off base second opinion. This is MY career on the line here. On a side note. This has gotten me to reevaluate what my degree will be in. (I also see the Navy is offering nice things for Nuke officers...) If I end up as Joe Civ I'm going to switch from a Business Admin degree to Electrical Engineering. I was going for an EE before I joined anyways. Make lemonade from lemons, right? |
