Act two of the Atlas Shrugged is on the plate for release soon.... And with today's IPO of Facebook, and the resignation of American Citizenship by Eduardo Saverin as he lives in Singapore... well it seems timely and all to foreshadowing. Oppress and Tax enough - those that can, do, and create - will leave. Enjoy the new malaise - I suspect B.O gets reelected; you can bet this is the first shot across the bow of a coming and growing trend. |

Do you "resign" citizenship or renounce it? If he wants to renounce his citizenship for a life in Singapore then I wish him well. Someday he will inspire his grandkids with the story of how at the height of his success he chose to renounce his citizenship in the USA. What a proud day for those grandkids. |

I've been wondering about his rationale... Of course the numbers don't fit in my tiny noggin, but even if he has a tax burden of 77 mil, how much does he get to keep?! To me, I'd put it front and center that I'm proud to be a US citizen, and it's WORTH the price. For pete's sake, he gets all the $$$ from Facebook, so he NEEDS to find SOMETHING to be proud of... FWIW, I joined FB to use it as a tool with a former job, to see who wanted to swap shifts from time to time- now I've really no use for it, and I'm getting sick of being "notified" about "statuses", "like" this and "like" that, yadda yadda. Not to mention the epidemic of idiots who can't put their "smart" phones down to sample REALITY once a blue moon... Sorry, rant off. |

This most unpresidential President and his minions demonize success. We are unceasingly bombarded with how evil the rich are even as this bastard fleeces them to provide campaign contributions. The unintended consequence is that capital is silently fleeing the United States as it is no longer welcome here. One can wail that this is somehow unfair but it will happen. Money always follows the path where it is welcome. If "fairness" is the mot du jour, can the "Anti Dog Eat Dog Act" be far behind? I am starting to think about moving to Panama as Obama and the fools who love him, are quickly turning the United States into Greece and I will simply not support this descent into Socialism. It is not too late...yet...but the Weimar Republic is coming to an end if we continue to abandon the US Constitution. Who is John Galt? |

I struggled with the resignation / renouncing.... been looking too much at the constitutional changes that happened after the Civil War ; I am thinking resigned is closer to the more appropriate term. And if indeed The United States is a corporation, and not a Government, .... I have no more loyalty to them than I do to Wal-mart. |

you can bet this is the first shot across the bow of a coming and growing trend. Can't disagree more strongly. Over the past year or so there have been several notable examples of very wealth, very successful folks fleeing the US. Saverin is just another example, certainly not the first. Won't be that last though. Squids, I don't want to sound demeaning, but perhaps if you had become wealthy enough in your lifetime, you would understand that stealing is stealing. It doesn't matter that it's being done "legally" by the government as taxation. At some point it is recognized for exactly what it is. That is not something to be proud of. I've asked this before... What percentage of the population contributing to the wealth of our nation is fair? Right now the vast bulk of that is paid by a very few people such as Saverin. Half of us contribute nothing or less! Honestly there are times that I consider where I might go. I really want the answer to be back to MI where we have family and property. It's still way ahead of where we are at right now. If we spoke a foreign language well, we might consider doing a "Saverin". We have talked of Austrailia though. There language shouldn't be too hard for us to learn. The simple fact is that the US has dug itself into a very deep hole, and like Greece, many people seem to think the solution is to dig faster. |

Those that are leaving are not leaving thier country but are really fleeing a thief. In the end what matters is the theft not a thiefs weapon of choice. Some use a gun some use the governments guns. When you make your fortune do you really want to see it taken? To be given to those WHO DESERVE IT as determined by the mob and there pet politicians. I wish him well and hope we can make this country a place achievers want to be. |

Do you "resign" citizenship or renounce it? If he wants to renounce his citizenship for a life in Singapore then I wish him well. CITIZEN noun INHABITANT, denizen, dweller, resident, subject, townsman SUBJECTnoun 1TOPIC, affair, business, issue, matter, object, point, question, substance, theme 2 CITIZEN, national, subordinate 3 SUBORDINATE, dependent, inferior, obedient blah blah blah Source: Collins English Thesaurus Transferring citizenship is only the transfer of 'stock' between corporations. Just business. Cattle trading. As an aside, entice one 'illegal alien' to accept one piece of Government documentation, and a new source of collateral is established. Think Mexican border and Driver Licenses. Business, just business. The loyalty to our geographical land masses is not for consideration. And if you are interested at all, lookup denizen. |

yeah, I know its RT, but they at least make no bones about who pays their bills; unlike the shills we have here http://rt.com/usa/news/us-citizenship-tax-denounce -521/ and unfortunately, you do not just walk into a slavic country like you do here. You overstay your visa, you are indeed put in prison, and there aint any Nintendo, government checks, or civil rights to protect you. Hell try hiking on the Iraqi / Iranian border sometime. |

Dual citizen ship can be had in 90 days, if one is willing to pay for it. Some sources will allow a name change. End of our republic, live and direct from Washington. Incentives, disincentives, the unbearable weight of those who love their ideas more than they're willing to honor our freedoms. |

Dual citizen ship can be had in 90 days, if one is willing to pay for it. Not exactly.
quote:A U.S. citizen may acquire foreign citizenship by marriage, or a person naturalized as a U.S. citizen may not lose the citizenship of the country of birth.U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or require a person to choose one citizenship or another. Also, a person who is automatically granted another citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship. However, a person who acquires a foreign citizenship by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign citizenship voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship.
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1 753.html What is being discussed in this thread would fall into the category of losing your US citizenship. |

always could use a series of them ;') Bourne, Kane, etc. From the Read today On the setting of getting a 'special exemption' to produce more than the state rated quotent of production of his own Product from his own Factory' Having to a discussion with a 'governement appointed watchdog' to his activities. "I could go to Washington and get you a special Exemption - for of coruse there would be a few expenses of course. You know how it is, things always of this occasion have expenses" What things ? (Rearden) You understand what I Mean (chump) No, said Rearden, why don't you explain it to me. It' bad phsychology (chump) What is ? (Rearden) "You know Mr. Rearden, it's not necessary to use such words as that" (chump) As What ? (Rearden) Words are relative, They're only symbols. If we don't use any ugly symbols, we wont' have any ugliness. Why do you want me to say things one way, when I 've already said them another?' (Ayn Rand - Atlas Shrugged) * the asides in parathesis are mine. So the stench of PC comes early, 1957 by accounts. Its a good read - pick it up if you have the time. reminds me of a Soviet Dissident on their 'new' freedom from Russian Czarist serfdom... poslivitsa (cultural folklore idiomatic expression ) They had become so accustomed and blind to the yoke of slavery, that they put it on willingly, and wore it as jewelry. |

>>> and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship. Sifo, It seems that clause may be informative. If I go to another nation and there apply for dual citizenship, it ought to be clear that I'm not intending to give up my U. S. citizenship. |

More from Ayn Rand, There were two types of people that came to the Party, both looked onto each other as they were known, classified under two camps; were they to be named - "Favor" and "Fear". ... By the unwritten code of the day, nobody received or accepted an invitation from a man of public prominence except in token of one or the other of these two motives. Those in the first group were, for the most part, youthful; they had come from Washington. Those in the second group were older; they were businessmen. Crony Capitalism, and PC smear of enemies ; laid as a map to getting things 'done'.... or not 'done'... |
