Reminds me... ( though the top vid is steeper, faster, and with far more skill ) 2 buds and I rode our mountain bikes up the south ( foot path ) side of Watkins Glen. Nice ride, mellow singletrack, mostly up. Actually went through 2 different parks in the process, and somehow ended up on the wrong side of the gate/park closure. So we cruised down the N side, Rock, Mostly down w/ steps & ledges, in the dark, just having a hoot.
They have a geography/history laser show on the cliff wall. For a mile or so, we heard stuff.."the Brontosaurus...." and then suddenly we're moving at speed, in full view of the tourists just as the recording starts talking about Neanderthal man and giant cave man cartoons are shining above us. We almost crashed laughing.
Aesquire... just realized you're in Pittsford, i'm in Irondequoit! Do you do any riding at Tryon? I'll have to keep an eye out for your bike on the road!
Haven't ridden Tryon in years, the broken glass/flat tire ratio got too high for me. Lotta fun though. Really should update my profile, I moved to Rush. ( high taxes, fancy homes... I "joke" I bought the cheapest house in Rush. Probably the smallest built in the last 20 years )
I also like Oatka pk, southwest of Scottsville. Nice single track but not the vertical that Tryon has. ( Tryon is a tiny sliver of a park in a gorge between suburban/urban hoods and Irondequoit Bay. Good riding, not far but steep, right next to the city )
I also got in "trouble" some years back riding on the islands in the Niagra River. Goat & the Three Sisters. At one point we were just watching the water flow by, when some nice Rangers yelled at us from the island next to us. We rode over to see what the problem was, and were informed we could not ride there. "Sorry, won't happen again." No, we were told, we COULD NOT ride there...How did we get there? You CAN'T walk there. "We rode" Absolute disbelief...YOU CAN"T RIDE THERE! At this point we realized they could not figure out how a bicycle could possibly make it over that terrain, ( giant blocks of riverbed with 6 ft deep, 2-3 ft wide cracks with water flowing through them ) After showing them that crazy people could indeed ride where you "can't walk" we were then informed that where we were could be covered in seconds with 8 ft of water if the powerplant moved a gate.... Since we lived, I guess we learned. ( the powerplant there was designed by Nicola Tesla. The Guy who Invented the 20th century. Some of the Original dynamo's are still in operation )
