Always enjoy Court's photos of NY in the Tale Section.

You didn't take some of these great shots on your Box Brownie did you Court? :-)

I didn't . . . I've been shooting all over the city in digital and will be going back to about 150 locations with film at some point.

The cool part of NYC is that so much of the stuff that was here in 1900 is still here . . .

Thanks for posting Geedee & Court. Being raised in Chicago and having many service connected NYC friends we always had something in common. The only thing we argued about is just which city was the greatest and which one was the "second city" HA! I have many memories of Chicago scenes just like those in the pictures which looked like "little Italy". AND best of all being a retired Chicago Ironworker I have a great admiration for bridges and all structures, especially tall buildings of which I was a big part in building. Absolutely great pictures, thanks again. P.S. If interested in NYC construction, check out "Ironmen" on the Weather channel Tuesday evening while you're eating some "deep dish" pizza. YA! Bob

That's really interesting. I like checking out how they made the megastructures.
Here's some fervent patriotism from my home town on its big unit.

No woosie safety gear in those days, and granite dust was good for you.

They spoke funny back then as well. That hasn't changed. ; )

WILLIAMSBURG BRIDGE
By 1903 that bridge ended up costing a staggering $24.2 Million. That is equivalent to $636,842,105 in 2012 using http://www.davemanuel.com/inflation-calculator.php

Until I read that article I'd never considered annual maintenance costs on a steel structure like that either.
