It is with sadness that I tell you Melanie passed on last night. After a five week struggle with cancer in her spinal fluid, she succumbed to the damage done by the cancer cells on the nerves that control auto functions. She discovered she had breast cancer four and a half years ago. She had that fixed and lived without any complications for 4 years. Last September, cancer had developed on the spinal cord. She had that surgically removed with follow up radiation. She was recovering well from that until five weeks ago when she had a seizure and the doctors discovered the cancer cells in the spinal fluid. These past five weeks were difficult. She was home with me under my care with assistance at home on demand from my health care provider. Last night, she passed on. I am sad, but comforted by her peaceful passing. Since the initial discovery of her cancer, she has accomplished a lot. Her business was a bead company and she travelled to teach classes locally and in many other states in the US. She also went on her Grand_Adventure two summers ago – riding her Triumph around the perimeter of the United States. She has written a book on her beading craft and it will be in the bookstores in the fall. We had a wonderful time together all through our marriage. These past 4.5 years were very special. Godspeed to Melanie |

So sorry to hear, Asbjorn - I had no idea about any of this. It sounds like she led a full life these past few years. I regret our paths not crossing a little differently and being able to meet her. My thoughts are with you and yours. |

Asbjorn, Please let us know when the book is available. Kim is into beading and it would be only right that she has your wife's book in her collection. Also, we will toast Melanie during our Memorial Day festivities in Franklin in two weeks. I know Alex, Ferris and Denise will help me to remember her in our gathering. Lots of other BadWeBbers will there too. |

SO many of us are in love with Melanie. So many have been touched (and still will be) It's hard to look at Char's pic above and not smile at the feeling of that moment in time. We'll no doubt be hearing from you again in time, Ozzie. Take care of YOURSELF now. |

I was reading her Grand_Adventure blog and saw she stayed right down the road from me during her trip thru jersey. I like the fact that she took on more once she found out. She seems like she was a real nice person to have known. Gotta allways think positive even with cancer. Sorry for your loss. |
