So, if you had to compete against foreign contractors, you think customers would choose you simply because you say your better regardless of price? Keep in mind your history with Fords doesn't guarantee that the problems will persist. Who's to say the next import you buy won't be a lemon or that it's company's ceo won't run the company into the dirt. Next time you buy, look into how many people our auto industry affects in this country. With your's and other's attitudes about American vehicles, I'm surprised any of you own a Buell!
I got to say every time I get into our Camaro my heart races, my palms get sweaty, and my adrenaline surges just like when I straddle a Buell!
My (Ex)wife got a Chevy Cobalt in the fall of2008. She now has something like 80,000 miles on it, and it runs like a top. I bought a used Ford pickup with 77,000 miles on it in 2004. When I sold it in 2010, it had 184,000 miles on it. During the time I had it, I had to replace a power steering line that started leaking, but that's all. I'm not bitching about reliability. I'd buy either a Chevy or a Ford in a heartbeat. You couldn't give me another Subaru, however. One was too many.
The problem with the adds is that they are selling nostalgia. Can anyone name another vehicle company that does this? Starts with an H... ends with a D. They get ripped to shreds for doing this around here.
We bought our first Ford (Escape) again in decades just last year. I'm very impressed with it. We almost pulled the trigger on a new Focus in February, but my wife got laid off while looking for exactly what we wanted. Decided to dump a couple grand on the old Chevy to keep it on the road for another few years. We can get the employee discount on Chevys too, but it just isn't the best value against Ford's offerings, even with the discount.
Court and Blake, So, if Buell still existed (under the mofo) does that mean you would have never bought one again, because of their poor management and bailout benefits? Just checkin.
Every GM that I could be excited about, they kill. The new T/A retro 70's based off the Camero platform The Fiero (I like mid engines - best performance out there for hills and corners) The Buick GNX The Nomad concept The Factory Hot Vega (sleeper in disguise) The Typhoon / Cyclone
You can't kill what didn't ever exist. Concepts are just that, concepts. Engineering and design exercises to test public reaction. The Trans Am you mention wasn't even built by GM, it was just a body kit some company came out with. The Fiero was great despite its reputation, it is hard to justify the numbers these days to build another one. Buick still has turbo V6's, Nomad had a decent shot at production to replace the HHR until the economy collapsed. GM still builds the successor to the typhoon/cyclone and it holds the world record for fastest production pickup, it just isn't available in the states.

why the F do they do that ? and yes I know the particular sore spot for the Holden
Is it the EPA, DOT, or some marketing twit that is in charge of that type o shiat ?
So Ford isn't selling with nostalgia with the Mustang and T'bird?
Hard to compare that to these Chevy adds. The Mustang and T'bird are as modern as anything you will find at that price point. Chevy is advertising cars from 50+ years ago.
IMO, what is going on here, and also the reason for all the "retro" cars, is that there is a conscious or subconscious realization that our country is in a mess and that our best days are behind us. Back when cars were cool, so were we. Now that cars all look alike, maybe we aren't so different either. That just sickens me. For my own part, I've owned mostly Fords, and the only imports I've owned (Toyota and Volvo - OK, MGB does not count as import) were both POS. The indestructible Focus just turned over 271,000 miles and will be replaced by a 2012 model and the Roadmaster wagon has 170,000 miles and rides like a magic carpet.
Thunderbird has been out of production for a while, all they have is the Mustang which looks like a terrible mess. The giant open grills on these so called "retro" cars is hideous and killing fuel economy.
They were planning on bringing it here as a Pontiac till that was shut down, rumor mill has been going again that they will try again after the next generation comes out next year. We are already confirmed to get the next generation of the Commodore SS-V within the next year.
no court i promise i haven't been. i rented a 2012 sel when i was at the races last weekend loaded leather moonroof and really enjoyed it. been eyeballing the f-150 since last summer.
was disappointed last night on ford.com to see they don't have an ecoboost focus now then i saw the ST with the recaro racing seats etc and got really excited.
the new Mustang V6 puts out 305 hp w/280 TQ and gets 31 MPG on the hwy
Just imagine what it would do if it wasn't pushing a brick through the air. A more aerodynamic car like the early 2000's Monte Carlo can get over 36MPG on the highway with its V6, but it didn't have a turbo so its power numbers aren't as impressive.
I'll always look at all the options, I have a Ford truck currently, and it has needed substantially more than my last Toyota. Whoever builds the first small to midsized diesel pickup, ill buy it. And no, not that Indian one.
My opinion is my opinion, you drive what you want to. By the way want to buy my buell?

I've always been a Ford guy but the previews I've seen of the new Dodge Ram are intriguing. Full air suspension that self adjusts for load and automatically lowers itself at freeway speeds - it even has a "park" setting. 8-speed transmission, shutters on the grill, a hemi that'll run on 4 cyl when needed, lots of modern electrics in the cab etc. It'll go for over $40 large when optioned the way I'd like which prices me out of the market. Still . . .
We've (Focus Fanatics) have bee eagerly waiting for the ST. It was supposed to have been released in the early part of the year and got moved to late 2012.
Just this last week dealer got the ability to place orders. I had two deposits down but confess the Titanium I got is all the car I need. It goes like squat, has the same tires as the Porsche and handles GREAT.
The Focus has some quirks but Ford has really done a great job. Customer Service is off the charts. I said something on the forum once about a problem and got a call from Ford within minutes.
The EcoBoost motor in the F-150 is KILLER (some of you know that a Badwebber did a lot of the testing of the 2 years prior to release, under contract to Ford) but it's not getting the mileage that predicted or claim. It's expensive to operate. See the F-150 Online forum for details.
I'm eagerly awaiting more info on the Focus ST. If they had a Titanium at the dealer the day I went shopping I'd own one right now. The entire equation changed with my wife's sudden change in employment status. With the delay, the ST could be an option. Depending on price and mileage estimates, I still might go with the Titanium though. When the streets offer good traction, I'm usually on 2 wheels anyway. In the winter the ST has little extra to offer IMO.
