I'm a bowtie guy - but I gotta say that I hope GM isn't using nostalgia as a reason to buy - none of the cars in the billboards are any newer than 40 years old. "We used to make cool cars - aren't we great?". What's the message here?
Perhaps it's a sneak preview of the new model name.
The new "Chevrolet Billboard" at a dealer near you.
They could resurrect some of the famous names, The Buick Old, The Pontiac Nostalgia, The Oldsmobile 42 & a half (due to downsizing), or the Oldsmobile 5 Billion (due to inflation).
Plenty more ideas where that came from, tell GM I work cheap.
Chevy, Chrysler and GE have been coming out with some spectacular advertising for years now. Advertising that strikes a chord. There is no doubt in my mind why they are pouring so much money into ads.
Hell, Chrysler has been hanging by a thread for years and years, always had the coolest cars on the road in the 60's and 70's and I like underdogs so I will probably keep buying their stuff. So far my Wrangler and Viper have not let me down a bit. I'm sick of all these cars from Japan everywhere (ya whatever, they're made here blah-blah, but the profits still go back to Japan ).
Every GM that I could be excited about, they kill. The new T/A retro 70's based off the Camero platform The Fiero (I like mid engines - best performance out there for hills and corners) The Buick GNX The Nomad concept The Factory Hot Vega (sleeper in disguise) The Typhoon / Cyclone
It pains me to say it but I've not had a Ford or a GM product that wasn't anything but trouble, my current Ford needed a new engine at 60,000 miles! The last GM product I had was an Opel Omega (Cadillac Catera if you've never seen one) with the 2.5 straight 6 BMW diesel in, It drove nicely but the finish was p**s poor & it rattled & squeaked like nobody's business.
However all the Dodges, Plymouths, FIATs, Lancias, & Alfa Romeos I've owned have been outstanding.
I wouldn't condemn Chrysler just yet, I think FIAT will rejuvenate it given the chance. If the New Dart, that's based on the Giulietta/Delta platform, handles half as well as the Alfa, it'll be a cracking tool.
Lol, The Russian freighters that used to come in to the East coast ports in the UK always left with a deck cargo of old Ladas. It was the cash trade for the crew.
My mate Steve & I once wedged the running gear from a Ford Granada into one of those. 2.8 Cologne V6, & 5sp manual, with a Capri back axle. It was in that crappy green colour they did, street sleeper, shredded many a tyre on that car from the lights.
Bought and sold a few Ladas during my time in the UK. Had a few Skodas as well, and always made a profit. People who loved them would probably have liked Buells :-). I found the biggest critics of them had never owned one, just like Buell critics.
Fiat is the future of Chrysler? What is the current market for the brand? (hint, think Hemi). I think it will take more than some hot euro model and a Hollywood delinquent to sell the Chrysler brand..
The Chevy billboards are just silly, unless they are going full retro. I've always been a Chevy guy back my first 4 wheeler, '68 Camaro RS, but we're down to two in the drive and likely my current Silverado will be my last.
Guell, It's a good thing we don't have to compete with foreign contractors, they'd put you and me out of business in a heartbeat. By the way thanks for helping our economy! LOL!
I wouldnt worry about foreign contractors, as i wouldnt compete with them anyways, 90% of the time our prices are higher than the competition, its our policies and the work we do that gets us hired. If the american auto manufacturers worked like that i might consider them again, sadly ive had far more issues with the fords than anything foreign ive had.
