Just got a new president here in France, Francois Hollande, a lefty. If his plans go as his manifesto, I think we're ****ed. I hear Quebec's nice in the summer.... |

Socialist President. What could go wrong? You know you're screwed when the political platform is "France isn't socialist enough." |

My socialist has promised 60,000 new government jobs over 5 years. Deficit? quoi? I mean, I knew that many people didn't like Sarkozy or the way he operates, I can't say I was much of a fan myself, but I didn't think that 51.9% of the 80% turnout would vote for the other tosser. I thought the French had more sense. Madame G is spitting nails. Texas would be nice Max, I have friends in Austin, but Madame wouldn't go for it, got to be somewhere francophone. Can't afford Swiss. I expect we'll just pull our horns in for now & buy more property when the market crashes. |

Norleans is right next to (East) Texas & VERY Franco-friendly. It's also a transport hub & there are plentiful OTR driving opportunities. It's on the Gulf. It's a nice city., a good place to live & you can be in Texas in under two hours. Do it! Move to the USofA. I did (23 years ago & I haven't regretted it.) If you stay en France Bon chance, Mon Ami. Normally, tout le Francais vote Socialist in the first round & then act sensibly thereafter. This time, too many have taken the wrong option the second time around. Whatever you do, don't go back to the UK! Vive la austerity measures! Chris C |

Norleans, might work, I'll have to see if I can get her to go for a vacation there. DEFINITELY shan't be going back to the UK. One can but hope that (as usual) most election promises are conveniently forgotten. |

Live in Montreal, do OTR to New Orleans. Or not. Yes, the one who gets elected winds up doing the policies of his opponent. I got blackmailed into returning to the States 21 years ago. Haven't recovered yet. |

Any danger of the Socialists gaining legislative seats in June, Grumpy? After today's result, I'd expect the electorate to be keen to keep the status quo in the Assembly. |

Just had a quick look at what I'd need to do for a GreenCard, my brain faded instantly. By the time I'd jumped through all the hoops to get the residency, & retaken my otr licence (can't just swap it, like a car or bike one) the lefties will be getting voted out again & I'll be nearing retirement. Hardly seems worth it. I'll just have to find a way to profit from the changes that are coming, then I'll come & visit as a legit vacationer. |

Sorry about that, our socialists ( Progressives ) are pretty racist and they wrote the immigration laws to exclude Europeans. Their current obsession is to exploit the tens of millions of South & Central American illegals to win elections. The odds on anyone getting rational immigration laws passed here are razor thin. I do have to ask, with the Socialists in power, can we expect to see more French built weapons in the hands of bad actors and terrorist states, again? I fully expect the Russians and Chinese to supply evil &^(*^%, since they, themselves tend to be evil *&^%$. History has some real odd twists. During the Invasion of Morocco by the U.S. Grumman Wildcat fighters found themselves fighting the Vichy French forces, with the Lafayette Escadrille defending with U.S. built Curtis Hawks. ( and some Dewoitines ) For about a week, losses were heavy on both sides, until the Vichy govt allowed a stand down and then became Free French forces... equipped with, again, U.S. Built planes. ( and the squadron is still around today, flying Mirage 2000N's IIRC ) The Lafayette Escadrille fought valiantly, both against the invading Americans, then the Germans with over 100 kills. Good luck over there. We all need it. |

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/ nabila-ramdani-franois-hollande-will-strike-fear-i nto-the-hearts-of-frances-rich-7718666.html If he's like our President with his Church of Liberation Theology ideology and utter lack of morals, he'll bad mouth the rich, point the mob at them, blame them for all your societies ills, while taking massive bribes from them and giving the rich your tax money. Expect unemployment to go up a lot as any business would be a fool to hire more workers with such men making tax and labor laws. Like here, where real unemployment has gone up pretty steadily since the DNC convention and Obama's nomination. Pay no attention to the unemployment claims by these folk. It's a statistical lie. Like all the promises given in public speeches. Their true colors ( which are usually red ) show in talks with their core support groups, as in the US where the Union & Communists were told that Obamacare was, in fact, meant to destroy private health insurance companies and where rich donors in San Francisco ( a neo-communist bastion of wealthy coastal idiots ) are told that the country bumpkins living in the middle of the country are bitterly clinging to their God and guns. ( showing the expected disdain for those who believe in a God other than the Holy State. Reactionary adolescent atheism is the demanded norm for these folk.... no matter how big a bible they carry to church ( Clinton's was quite big... overcompensate much? ) or their claim that security concerns keep them out of church. ( Barack has golf and Michelle her personal trainer. Priorities, you know. ) |

Don't worry Grumpy, with cutting edge industries like wine and cheese you should be able to foot that bill. Same crap over here, the one that promises the most free stuff gets the most votes. |

Just to keep you up to speed. Mme G whose politics are... well I won't say extreme, but compared to her Gengis Khan was wishy washy, has been getting more & more fed up with her job, been with the same firm since she left the army over 20 years ago. New lefty Pres & all I'm afraid for the tv every time his face comes on, anyway she was peeking over my shoulder this morning & asked me what this thread was about, so I told her I was just venting & she didn't need to worry about me legging it off to the US. She then dropped a bombshell by saying she'd quite fancy going to Quebec for a year to see how she likes it! I've no idea if you can "try before you buy" for Canadian residency. Looks like I'll be doing a bit of research. |

Socialists never learn. Even after the complete collapse of Argentina, they put the same kind of people and same kind of policies right back in place. Even in face of abject failure, statists always fall back on the same excuse......"the right people weren't in charge". |

Canada equals British Commonwealth equals they accommodate you, right? Quebec equals France in North America equals eazy access for the Mrs. Your commercial driving license will likely be easier to acquire in Canada. Everything in Canada is marked bilingually, it will be like coming home. Montreal has a baseball team. And a place with better bagels than NYC. (Yes, it's true. And NO argument will never pass the 24 hour shop in their Hassidic district taste test). C'mon over. When it's not fun anymore, you can always go back to the other side of the pond.... |
