just wondering, do other countries make compensations or are they made to feel guilty over their conquests? Not saying what happened to the Inians was right, but I don't believe there is much land on Gods green earth that hasn't at one time or another been taken from somebody. I heard Austrailia has done that, but don't think I've heard of others. | ||

New Zealand began compensation agreements back in 1975, and they are continuing. Less technologically advanced people ALWAYS fall to those more advanced. It's simply the way it is. Given the choice, "Native American" people choose technology and modern commerce over buffalo skin loin cloths. My NA buddy I play online with doesn't wax nostalgic about living in a tee pee and eating dried buffalo. It's naive to believe that even if NA people were left alone that they wouldn't embrace technology and abandon their existence. As far as land ownership goes, they owned the land only as long as they could defend it against an invading force. If the US was invaded by Canada and we were unable to fight them off, we would be displaced. Canada would win. No one owes NA folks a thing. Given the opportunity and inclination, ANY tribe was as likely to take land from another as not. If the UN is so concerned, they could give up the prime realestate the UN headquarters sits on thy was stolen from NA tribes. Yeah, didn't think so. | ||
