Nice. I miss the shuttle launches. Few things neater than being able to walk outside and watch history being made. |

Awesome thing to see, mike. Flgirl - I was in FL as a kid and we were planning on going to the Kennedy Space Center, but on our way found out we were being diverted to the Astronaut hall of fame because there was a shuttle launch that day. Weather post poned it so we never saw it go up. Once the shuttle program was canceled and now who knows if we'll ever send a manned rocket into space again, I feel I kind of missed out on the awesomeness of a launch like that. Crossing my fingers that our gov't can see reason to continue funding for NASA for the Mars missions - doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to approve funding for a program that the lifetime 50-year spend has been less than the bank bailouts, but I digress. To dreams. Cheers. (I just bought a Triumph so I have to start using words like "cheers" now). |

"Once the shuttle program was canceled and now who knows if we'll ever send a manned rocket into space again, I feel I kind of missed out on the awesomeness of a launch like that." When we first moved to FL, I worked for an aerospace engineering firm, and watching the shuttle launches was a big deal. Great memories. We've been lucky in that we have seen dozens from 30 or 40 miles away, and a couple from several miles up or down the beach. However, we never did make it over to KSC to see any launches. The end of the space shuttle program ensures we never will either. Oh a happier note, I hope you are enjoying the Triumph! |

I'm still sulking. I was hoping it would go to Dayton. |

My Great Uncle was in the running to be the teacher that was launched into space with the Challenger. He was a AF Ltc with wing time in the 101's, 106's and F-4's On his third flight exam physical - they found a cyst - put him out of the running. The tales he used to tell - well over Half of the 'UFO' sightings in Texas, Oklahoma and some Nevada - where his wing of fly boys. and knowing what our squadron did in the PNW ... I have a huge skepticism for any UFO sighting. |
