Do you think it's time for some new tires? Dunlop D401 on my neighbor's HD.
I don't really know this guy, he's my "neighbor" in the apartment building ramp. What do you think? Are these as warn as I think they are? |

I've posted about this guy before. In my earlier post I refer to him as my "creepy" neighbor. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/674843.html?1335290491 |

I can also tell he doesn't lean the bike worth a DAMN. Probably rides REAL HARD in a straight line, then brakes like a MotoGP rider only to tip-toe through the corner with as little lean angle as possible... |

Naaah. Wait till the "white meat" is showing. |

For some of the HD riders I know, there's still 2 years of tread left on that tire. |

Right. He must get a bit more lean (if you can call it that) on his right hand turns. |

Center looks just millimeters away from cords. And, maybe an OLD tire too. Creepy or no, if you have any rapport at all I'd mention it to him if I were you. |

May not be that he leans one way more than the other, the wheel may be mis-aligned. Judging by the state of the tyre, maintenance isn't his strong suit. You might check the tell-tales to see if the axle is square in the swingarm. |

Hate to think about it, but the front may be in dire shape too... Worth a look, and a neighborly kind mentioning... |

His front is pretty nasty looking, but no where near the wear that this one is (not surprising). This is a 98 HD Sportster. I'm guessing this is the original tire with 14 years of wear. |

Maybe you should go tell him he needs a new tire. Yea, tell him your the guy that left the "cheerful" note while your at it. |

"This is a 98 HD Sportster. I'm guessing this is the original tire with 14 years of wear." Ummm, THAT's what I was worried about, but didn't say...

It is not uncommon for left side to show more wear as the roads in some areas have a very high center crown. |

You're taking pictures of his personal property, posting them on the web and he's creepy? Stick a fork in it, it's done. |

What's wrong with those tires? I don't see any cord showing yet. There's lots of miles left in them. Besides, if it took him 14 years to wear the first set down, what's left will probably last him the rest of this season |

Thanks for the photo, it takes me back. I sold my 96 XLHS to a friend of a friend. He never changed the oil in the 4 years that I knew him and ran the rear tire to and thru the threads (there is rubber underneath the threads). One time, he revved her up, snapped the clutch out (forgetting that the fork lock was still on) and broke his collar bone when he hit the curb and was thrown to the street. He has gifted me with many "So stupid that they can't be true" stories that I could write a book. Anyway Buzz, you are wise to keep your distance from this one. |

I wouldn't get involved. At all. Given the reaction to the earlier note...best to just keep quiet. If asked, offer advice. If he doesn't ask...move on. |

You can always suggest waiting a few thousand more miles and he won't need a kickstand any longer. |

Yes, the kickstand lean appears to be the threshold for how that guy rides. |

I am considering ordering another one of these Michelin tires. It sticks like glue even under loads of power.

I talked to this guy on Sunday afternoon. He figured he still had 50% of the tread left on this tire. As we were chatting I mentioned to him that my front brake rotor was warped on one of my bikes so I wasn't riding it until I got it replaced. He said "that's cheap and easy to fix, like $15." He must have been thinking brake pads. Russ: Which Michelin's are those? |

"He must have been thinking brake pads." Based upon what you've told us so far, my bet is on a hammer to fixerate that pesky warped rotor.

Worse I ever saw was back in the mid-80's. My friend and I were parking our bikes in the "Motorcycle Reserved" space at Six Flags Great Adventure (yeah, they USED to have one, but not in years). A guy pulled in next to us with a brand new Kawasaki GPz750 Turbo, and the rear tire was completely squared off and bald. Front tire looked brand new, and with good reason... there was only 400 miles on the ODOMETER!! He must've racked up those 400 miles doing nothing but burnouts! Moron... |
