There was a thread on ADVrider a few days ago that mentioned he didn't have long. RIP Levon. Not a good couple of months for music-related people. |

Funny thing about Levon is he was good friends with our very own Hillbilly Ed. I had posted on ADVrider yesterday when I heard the news. Ed called last night whilst I was immersed in replaying Dirt Farmer for the third time through. He had invited him to play Big Jim's Ride. Levon called about 6 weeks ago and had told Ed that he had a prior gig going as a house band in upstate NY and couldn't make it. Ed was a little surprised at yesterday's revelation and bummed of course. Heading to Arkansas next month to meet and ride with friends on the way to Big Jim's Ride. I'll kick a dirt clod for Levon and wish him peace. |

They had a GREAT hour of "Fresh Air" on NPR today, did most of 2 interviews with him- one before the cancer, and the one after, he'd since done "Dirt Farmer"- they ended with his version of Buddy and Julie Miller's tune, "Wide River to Cross"... it was very interesting to hear him talk and sing with the changes in his voice. Got teared up a few times that hour, what a guy. |

Levon was a pretty good actor too. He played the backwoods "munitions expert" in "Shooter", among other roles. |

They did an excerpt from a film (new?) with Tommy Lee Jones today- just listening to it made me want to see the film. |
