I just got home from my *Final* visit with the Cardiac Surgeon. I am now cleared to drive a car! I will be cleared to ride a motorcycle in two weeks! My recovery is progressing at a great rate, and I'm feeling pretty good for having had major surgery five weeks ago. The surgeon used to ride a motorcycle, and he always lusted after a Moto Guzzi, but his wife made him stop riding. I was wearing a Moto Guzzi sweat shirt, which helped matters along. He made me promise to not put any undue stress on my upper body, but as long as I'm comfortable, he gave me his OK. I'm so happy I could dance. I just thought I'd share the good news! |

Once you start feeling better, pain is quickly forgotten. Don't overdo it. When you begin riding again, take a wingman with you. |

Good going. My cardiologist hates that I ride. Feels that my meds will cause me to bruise to death if I fall. He may be right. I've been forced to cut out martial arts, except for pell work, because of the meds. ( my neighbors are still getting used to some of the odd things I do. Not running up and down the street with loud pipes like the Hog rider 4 houses down helps. I just start up and ride away mellow. The pell work bothers some, I think, but I don't do it at night....) Remember, you have to be aware of your condition. Not that you are a fragile broken dude, but what the meds will/can do. The meds they use today can have serious side effects. Warfarin, for example, (Coumadin, Jantoven, Marfarin) can give you a GI (tummy) bleed that can kill you, ( I know ) and it is now known that how much you can take/need varies a LOT by genetics. So if you are on an anti-clotting drug, ASK how your clotting factor is in the tests. Be aware of the signs that one or another drug is either wrong for you or having bad side effects. Some of the cholesterol drugs can have wicked effects, while another does no harm to you. and it's very individual. I was crippled up for a few years with Simvistatin, while Lipitor was fine... and my Mom had problems with several statins.... On a lighter note... I'm on megadoses of Niacin to raise my good cholesterol. One of the side effects is hot flashes, so I am now much more sympathetic to menopausal women's complaints. ( also that's a safe attitude to take ) Also the time of day you take meds makes a big difference in how you tolerate them. Diuretics, Niacin, etc. can effect you vastly different ways if you take them in the morning or at night before bed. ( Dizzy spells, passing out etc. from diuretics is common, so some suggest night doses, while others have issues with having to get up a 3am to "go".... YMMV ) |
