Anyone have experience with these types of grills? I'd rather only buy once, but the BGE price is a killer. I've had a Big Green Egg for a couple of years now and it's my favorite. Is it worth the price? Yeah, maybe. Some people have commercial style Wolf ranges in their kitchens while others use a Kenmore. Both work. I'm pretty sure the BGE will last longer than I will, though. I'm experimenting with charcoal now, getting the right sized pieces makes a difference. Hawaiian Ono has a mellow flavor. Adjusting the heat with airflow management is a science in itself. |

Favorite bacon snack recipe: Ingredients: Fresh Jalapenos (sliced in 1/2 lengthwise) Venison pan sausage Cream cheese Bacon 1) Wash, slice & prep the jalapenos (will need to de-seed the insides enough to stuff them) 2) Cook venison pan sausage & drain 3) Mix sausage with cream cheese (trying for a cookie dough consistency) 4) Stuff jalapenos with sausage/cream cheese mix 5) Re-assemble jalapenos into "whole" peppers & wrap with bacon 6) Bake at 350 until bacon is slightly crispy Enjoy |

I smoke bacon wrapped pork loin on occasion. This thread made me instantly hungry. |

Mike- beautiful! Almost put my head through the screen! What kind of greens were those? I'd have to build a serious salad to make a 1st course of that- unless we go European, I've heard the salad is the last course.

Lol. Never discussed my 'greens' before. I believe it's just Romain lettuce, with a little shredded cheese on top. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong though. |

In progress right now.
I see a Kamado style smoker in my near future. |

This is just a google image, but it's my grilling setup: It has the propane burner and 'grill' on the left, and a charcoal grill and smoker on the right. I love it. I can grill burgers after work in about 10 minutes on propane, or switch over if I have an hour and do Charcoal, or go all out with the smoker for half a day or more. |

Came out quite tasty. There are issues controlling the heat correctly on my grill though. Certainly not the ideal smoker setup. I'll definitely keep experimenting.

I smoke bacon wrapped pork loin on occasion. I tried that back in the '60's, but I couldn't keep 'em lit... rt |

Got home from work today and found my wife had brought this home...
Some assembly was required. After about 35 minutes it looks like I'm committed to some serious smoking! Have to season the grill first though. I'll have to start simple this weekend. |

Sifo... GOOD wifey! Looks like Sunday will be a big day in the yard and garden- naturally, I'll have to fire up the grill... I'll be referring back here before I get things going. It'd be nice to put the gas grill on a low heat, watch/smell some smoke roiling out of the rig all day... got some pork spare ribs and chops, chicken... BTW- some time back I bought a few of those cheap aluminum grilling pans from Big Lots, they have "mesquite" inside them for one-time use smoking- tried them once but got curious, took a look at the "mesquite" (pellets between the pan layers), and put a little water on them- of course later I looked at the directions, which said NOT to do that... anyone else tried these things? I may take another shot at making them work. |

Sifo, You will love that grill! I have a Large BGE that I've used for about 6 years now and couldn't imagine using anything but a Kamado style. If you want to do some low and slow cooks then I have a fairly cheap way to set up a temp controller. Roll your own for $30 using an Op Amp circuit, thermistor and a computer fan or for a few bucks more use a cheap eBay PID temp controller, and a computer fan. Both work really well and reliable enough that I let them go on autopilot overnight. |

GOOD wifey! Darned straight! Likes to ride and shoot too! I did at least one thing right in my life! I'd love to see plans for something like that. I'm doing the break in burn tonight. It's got a cast iron grill that needs to be seasoned before use. Good time to get a feel for how it runs. So far so good, but I'm guessing a hot cook around 400 is easier to control than a slow one near 225. I got roped into working all day on Saturday, so no smoking on that day. I guess it will wait till Sunday. The weather looks nicer Sunday anyway. I plan to start simple the first few cooks to learn the ropes. Wifey picked up a bunch more chicken legs and thighs to smoke up. It'll be a fun learning experience! |

I'm starting to hate..... loving my BGE. I use it TOO much....Tiefenthaler Skinless Bratwurst, pizzas and the like..... that I cook up and take to work all week. I weighed 179 pounds this morning and "normal" is 165. My britches told me to ditch dinner with friends at the restaurant today.

I got home in time to give some chicken thighs a go. Here's a picture of the leftovers going into a bowl. Taste was superb!
The good wifey wanted to try a bit of pizza too! WOW!
I was hoping to drop a few pounds this summer, but I think I just lost all hope. |
