I wonder whether we had anything to do with that? Airborne laser perhaps? Taking out ICBMs in boost phase is what it was designed to do after all. The laser is not visible to the naked eye and has a very long range. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that this was the case. |

I'm not sure we'd ever find out in our lifetimes, but it would have been a great opportunity to test such a system... |

Program was scrapped in Feb 2012, which I was unaware of. Still, there could have still been an operation aircraft available. It isn't like the launch was a surprise. They would have had time to prepare the plane. |
