I am feeling a strong desire to sell everything I own except what will fit on the Piglet and head on up there in June. Whatever, do it. Give in, follow your heart, you know you should. Your big adventure last year means you can never go back to the same old same old. DAMHIK. We never own anything anyway. |

Well, I might as well spill the beans. I started working at a coffee house full time that shall remain nameless. I make 8$ an hour before taxes. I am guessing that if I am lucky I will get to take home $1100 a month. My lovely apartment management team has resolved to raise my rent by 65$ a month starting in July. I have about three weeks to decide if I want to renew my lease... which would eat up over half of the $1100 I am making now, or get the hell out of here. GUESS WHAT? I STILL PAY STATE AND FEDERAL TAXES MAKING NEXT TO MINIMUM WAGE. SO DON'T EVEN START WITH ME OR I MIGHT BLOW A GASKET. I am looking at either having to get a second job, hopefully in the next month, and work 60 hours a week, just to get by, or moving in with friends again, or both. I am not really sure what my point is, except that it almost seems now, with the dire situation I am going to be in in three to six months, and the lack of follow through from a couple of recent employers I interviewed with... that told me they were pretty damn interested in hiring me... I may just set up a tent on someone's property and live in it. Then again, I might just dissapear. This store I work at has 8 people on the floor at a time, a drive through, and people who bitch about a 3 minute wait and use credit cards and do not tip, while there are 40 customers in line during rush hour every weekday morning. I guess that my days of a cushy back up job of driving cab making $10+ an hour are over. I can't really drive cab here in the south and expect to not get shot or worse. I know there are people on this board that will say, "Well, you deserve that, because you created your circumstances yourself." And I know there is one in particular that thinks I am a criminal for recieving unemployment benefits as long as I have. Well, after 14 months of looking, over 500 applications and 19 job interviews, I am just about ready to give up on my aspirations for a professional job. Seems the trifecta of moving to a new state, not having a professional network here, and having 8 years of progressively higher wages with increased technical and management responsibility has made me un marketable. I reasonably cannot see taking any kind of bike trip before my birthday in October, and maybe indefinitely will have to stay put. I guess I can be really grateful that I did save enough money in 2010 to have a great year of travel in 2011. After almost having my health do away with me in 2008 and 2009, I suppose the gift of that was to live for today. Reality is, with medication that costs $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, I could easily end up one of those homeless people going to work and living in a shelter. I do not think I could handle that. Oh well, it is the global economy where people who are trained scientists and engineers are waiting on the spoiled self centered maggots that think that the working class poor are just damn lazy. My new boss is really great, and my co-workers for the most part are very good. The struggle is to be in the face of a bunch of women 38 hours a week and not be in their emotional business. I am getting good at tuning things out. So, unless I meet my sugar daddy, or Court agrees to make me his mistress I will not be at homecoming. I hope you all have a great time and I hope someone gets me a t-shirt. (Message edited by Whatever on April 08, 2012) |

Hey Char... folks are migrating to Texas on a daily basis from states with high unemployment rates. In fact, many of the local restaurants here are offering sign on bonuses to be competitive with the Oil Field service companies. When I arrived here a month ago... I was literally swimming in job offers. I'd bet money that you could have a 75k-100k job here in just a couple of weeks. It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it sure beats minimum wage and the worry. Send me a PM if you want me to drum up some contacts for you. |

Cory, thanks, I may take you up on that offer. I really enjoyed west Texas and southern New Mexico so much when I was there. I could do without east Texas (no offense to 'Oh Tom' and Michelle). If you could drop me your e-mail in my PM box I could then forward you my resume. I am not opposed to moving out west again, even if I really want to stay here. I love it here, unfortunately so do all the college graduates from the five universities in the area. Sorry I was being all whiney. Some days are just like that. I took a really long meandering ride to look for places to live. A guy behind me on a red Ducati had such an awesome super machine I accidentally hit the kill switch in traffic just looking at it... perfect sunny and cool day... ha ha ha ha... |

I may just set up a tent on someone's property and live in it. Whatever, that sounds good . Lots of places to pitch a tent in Texas. You'll feel so good you'll need no more meds. ... "with the dire situation I am going to be in in three to six months"... There you are, you already know. Load up the Piglet and go girl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svvqC7J6nR4 You got 56 :-) |

Did you know she did a 17K motorcycle trip in something like three months. Yeah, I did. Followed her trip thanks to Slaughter. She is proof that you don't need a place to 'Live'. All the best, Gary |

Go placidly Amid the noise and waste. And remember what comfort there may be In owning a piece thereof. Avoid quiet and passive persons Unless you are in need of sleep. Ro-tate your tires. Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself And heed well their advice, Even though they be turkeys. Know what to kiss.....and when! Consider that two wrongs never make a right But that THREE.........do. Wherever possible, put people on hold. Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment And despite the changing fortunes of time, There is always a big future in computer main-te-nance. Chorus You are a fluke Of the universe. You have no right to be here. And whether you can hear it or not The universe is laughing behind your back. Remember the Pueblo. Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mu-ti-late. Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI. Exercise caution in your daily affairs, Especially with those persons closest to you. That lemon on your left, for instance. Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls Would scarcely get your feet wet. Fall not in love therefore; It will stick to your face. Gracefully surrender the things of youth: The birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan And let not the sands of time Get in your lunch. Hire people with hooks. For a good time call 606-4311; Ask for "Ken." Take heart amid the deepening gloom That your dog is finally getting enough cheese. And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot It could only be worse in Milwaukee. Chorus You are a fluke Of the universe. You have no right to be here. And whether you can hear it or not The universe is laughing behind your back. Therefore, make peace with your god Whatever you conceive him to be--- Hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin. With all its hopes, dreams, promises and urban renewal The world continues to deteriorate. GIVE UP! Reprise You are a fluke Of the universe. You have no right to be here. And whether you can hear it or not The universe is laughing behind your back. |

So Ken. I was not complaining about paying taxes. I have no problem paying the taxes I pay. I never have and I never will. I have always paid taxes. It is just part of life. It is the price of a civilized society. Get over it. 'Oh Tom'... I will never live that photo down, will I. |

I will try to nail down something about a factory visit, parking lot summit or something like that. People have suggested some fun stuff:
- Dyno shootout
- Tech demonstrations, for which we actually have a site ! We've asked a number of times about what you'd all like to see.
- Numerous rides led by folks who know the area inside out.
- Elkhart Lake - No planning necessary or possible
This is your HC, peeps ! |

Char, Texas has been good to me. I moved here immediately after getting out of the Navy with no job and no place to live. Within three weeks I was gainfully employed, and not at minimum wage. Come on back. |

I'm definitely in for this year's HC. I would like to hang out with owners like all previous years but I'm going to see the races this time. Staying tuned for a more concrete plan |

I like the idea of tech demos, area rides and a central meeting location. Are we still thinking Alpine Valley? are rooms blocked off again? |

If we can book more than 15 rooms at Alpine, we can get a "group" rate. What exactly is that rate? Don't know right now. This seems like a good time to ask - who's staying at Alpine besides me? |

I want to hang at the garage for a class or two. I will be staying at Country View CampGrounds again this year. Want to go to the races on Saturday. I'll eat at Gus's about one meal a day. Hope to find some interesting peeps at Roma's or like place Thursday or Friday. Thinking about visiting the Boiler Room for a Ginger Ale with a twist of lime. Will be sitting around a campfire in the eves. |
