Smokescreen, try www.naxja.org like any other forum, you have to dig around some for good bits of info. What year, sub model, engine, etc? I had an '85 two door that I built out. + 3 on the liner instead of the carpet. Looks like you were very lucky with the floor pans not being rusted through. That thing can do amazing things if it is set up properly. |

It's an 89 Laredo with the standard 4.0 5spd 4x4. I'll check out that forum for sure! Thanks for the suggestions guys! |

It's back in the shop! Yeeehaw! Well for a moment or two anyway.
Doing a little lift test. 27" of air under the right front makes the left rear touch. Crap......more work to do, bump stops and what not. |

AC Bypass pulley is going back to NAPA! I'm going with a no AC belt should have thought about that in the first place!! glad to see you have it back in the shop and tinkering with it Vern. 27" before it rubs... sound pretty good to me! |

27" before it rubs... sound pretty good to me! It sounds good, but it should never rub. A rub incident with these tires will either get one of these expensive tires cut down to a flat, or the body will get bent in a bad way, or both. Big knobs rubbing anything = not good. These are actually stock pick-up springs on a shackle bracket lift. Believe it or not I may have to go to 3 or 4 inch lift springs for getting the 38s to clear the body parts! Modifying the rust free Florida body's rear wheel openings is out of the question for me. I would rather go down to 35 inch tires if I had to. Damn, if it gets too high it won't pass under any trees! It would definitely not need a snorkel, but with the door openings at 50", a person could fall out and get hurt. |

I love me some TSL's for offroad. They are good in just about any kind of dirt/mud/rocks. |

This weekend I actually got to spend a few hours whacking off about 30 pounds of old brackets and gussets from the last build. The steering box mounting is built and oddly enough as I was setting the pinion angle on the front axle the damn thing ended up an inch and a half higher! The front of the hood is now at 60 inches off the ground. I will be raising the rear an inch and a half more to level it up. That will put the top of the roof at 7'7". The door opening will be at 46". I am going to have to hang rope ladders out the sides. In testing for shock mounts I found that this thing is going to be able to step up on and over a 24 inch block without batting an eye.....cool stuff! |

I was over to my nephew's place this afternoon. He has a home built Toyo rock crawler. It is on 44" rubber, bead locks, air lockers, hydraulic steering, four link with 40" gas shocks, coil overs, propane and a nice winch. What ever else can be removed or added can't be much. He told me I needed to go with he and his buddies next time they go out. NO THANKS! BTDT! My jacked up hot rod is for mud and trails. That rock crawling is for another entirely different machine that looks so similar. Mark, you are welcome anytime! You can even bring Gary! |

Don't worry Vern I've been riding it for about a year without one. I just wouldn't mind not seeing the check engine light on constantly. |

Got my rear driveshaft made, still waiting on the front one. looks pretty though, don't it?
So I've been going back and forth about what to do with tires for this thing. I'm on a very limited budget (saving for a house) so my thought of going with a new set of tires for this thing will have to wait. So I did what I had to do and bought a used set of wheels and tires. This is the new ride height for now.
Looks ike I'm going to need bigger flares. Wolfie wanna sell your old TJ ones? |

Damnut, the Jeep has a good profile as it sits. Why not find some General mud tires at around $700/set. |

Not the best for highway driving, but damn! If that does not look awesome on a jeep. I had a pair (of Swampers) on my old XJ, the iron duke had a tough time turning them, but they were a great tire!! Nice build tread! |

Thanks guys. It's been a build that is WAY over budget and about 5 months past my given deadline. I'm really happy with the way it has turned out so far. Today was a GREAT day for me as a Dad. I usually have my Jeep at my buddy's garage to work on but while I'm waiting for my front shaft to be finished I decided to do some stuff on the Jeep at home before bringing it to the exhaust shop. Well today I received a little help from my 4yo boy. Here we are installing the new rear driveshaft.
I think I may just finish it at home. He was pumped to work on it and I think I was even more pumped than he was. He might just take after the old man after all. |

I ended up buying that set of rims and tires for $350. The tread is a little worn but it will do for this year. This Jeep project has been almost 2 years of planning and building so at this point I just want it to be done already. Can't wait to mash the pedal and find the weak link in my drivetrain. |

Jim, that kind of help is priceless! That is what it is all about. Wait 'till you are out on the trail and he gets to drive a bit! My sons are grown, the youngest is 21 living at home. He has his own truck on 35's, he keeps prodding me to get mine done to help him put his one ton axles in his '76 full size Chevy. For me, the Grandsons are coming along soon. |

Sometimes I wish I had a little helper like that.... My helpers aren't much help!
installed the 1" Brown Dog Motor Mounts last night and removed my 1/4" transfer case skid spacers. I'm happy to report... no driver line vibes, but I will need to get a different shifter boot. Mine is binding up a little, making it hard to shift into 2nd and 4th. Can't wait to hit the trails!! |

Received a phone call today that my front driveshaft is finally done. Gonna go pick it up and put it in later. All that is left is the exhaust, brakes and a few odds n ends to clean up then I should be driving it. Hopefully by June. |
