Glitch: Watch the video (which was produced by Nancy Pelosi's daughter) in the link. Think this is an accurate (or fair) portrayal of you and your family, neighbors and friends in the South?
I'm not sure how to respond to that. The "light" they're shining on Mississippi is pretty dim. I've had to put up with people looking down at me and my kind my whole life, they take what we believe, and make fun. They're so above everyone and everything in the South, that we're taught at an early age that people like that just need to be ignored. They end up needing us way before any of us need them. There's no shortage of "films" like that one that are only perpetuating stereo types, to get their "point" across. It's so rampant that people have no conscience saying hillbilly in a derogatory way, even here on BadWeB, by some of BadWeB's most popular. When that happens it makes me more mad than any film made by the likes of them. It's like making fun of Christians, so many do it, it's become ok. Does it make me mad? Yes Is it fair? Who really cares, life ain't fair.
"This is America, the president should be American, not Muslim"
These guys are great, I'm sure they cherry picked the "best" clips from their various interviews. I've met people like in that video here in NY too, so it isn't just the south.
I aspire to "hillbilly" status. I just don't sound right being from Kansas.
What I find interesting is the MASS migration of those from CA and the NE to the south.
I enjoy talking with new transplants. I usually ask two questions. What do they like about the south, and why would they want to leave where they came from?
Usually, they left because of high crime, taxes, lack of economic opportunities, etc., and have come south for lower taxes, lower crime, nicer people, to raise children, and better economic opportunities.
My concluding statement is usually this:
"We am so glad you are here. You'll find that the folks here in the south love where they live and are proud to be southerners. If you like all the things that make this place great, remember that when you vote. If you bring the same policies as the place you left, you'll make this place look like that place."
Froggy, there are people "like that" everywhere. It's part of what makes America America.
The video is rude, and it's pandering, of course, to the left. Consider that it was produced by Nancy Pelosi's daughter (good girl, she's following in mom's footsteps), and ya can't help but notice the "HBO: Real Time with Bill Maher" ad/link across the top of the vid.
Wasn't it Mr. Obama who made the comment (not knowing he was being tape-recorded) about southerners (or was it midwesterners) "clinging to their guns and religion"?
The video is rude and uncalled for. But, sadly, par for the course. Mr. Obama is holding nothing back on this election. He's all in.
Jerry, I just got a call from a fella that was about to lay into you for posting that. He thought you were in agreement with the film. I told him that wasn't the case and you are an adopted Son of the South, and that since we know one another, you knew I'd take it the way you meant it. After our conversation he left saying "Good thing! I was eyeing him as the enemy! He needs to make sure his uniform is visible!" Here in the South, we take care of our own, we don't need no carpet bagger to tell us how bad things are for us, how ignorant we are, or how we ought to be more like them. It's a Southern thing, I think you understand.
He's all in. You'd think they'd tread lightly, since he needs the Southern vote. You'd think he'd be kissing everyone's ass, rather than pissing people off. He got the independent vote last go round, that's why he's president. The independent vote is large in the South, as Southerners hate labels, for obvious reasons. Let him keep dividing and alienating people. Like a kid screaming for candy in the candy store, people are just going to want him out rather than give a brat any candy. Here's an interesting read. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/pos t/obama-has-more-problems-than-gas-prices/2012/03/ 12/gIQAjz0U7R_blog.html
"The new Post-ABC poll shows that “46 percent approve of the way Obama is handling his job; 50 percent disapprove. That’s a mirror image of his 50 to 46 positive split in early February. The downshift is particularly notable among independents — 57 percent of whom now disapprove — and among white people without college degrees, with disapproval among this group now topping approval by a ratio of more than 2 to 1, at 66 versus 28 percent.”
While some of this is certainly attributable to gas prices, his handling of the economy is also a sore point with voters. Thirty-eight percent approve of his handling of the economy while 59 percent disapprove. Moreover, President Obama’s “strongly disapprove” number (39 percent) leads the “strongly approve” number (28 percent), highlighting that anti-Obama voters are more intense and plentiful than pro-Obama voter.
Obama also has a substantial problem with independents. The Post’s pollster tells me that Obama trails Mitt Romney 42-50 among independents; against Rick Santorum he trails by a smaller margin, 45 to 48 percent. Overall, Romney leads Obama by a statistically insignificant point (47 to 46 percent), while Santorum trails 46-49 percent."
Sadly, I know first hand how easy it was for them to find people for that video. Yep, and believe it or not, you can easily find people like that all over, not just the South.
Jerry, I just got a call from a fella that was about to lay into you for posting that.
I'd be curious who that is, but no biggie; I know that he and I are on the same side, or else he wouldn't have cared enough to call.
Thanks for setting him straight. My daddy was born and raised in Alabama. That'll tell you a lot about who I am. I was born in Washington State (as was MaB), and lived all my life, up until the last five years, anyway, on the West Coast.
I now live in the South, love it here, and Denise and I consider ourselves southerners. This is home. We love the land, we love the people, we love the way of life, and we love the "we don't need, or want, anyone from the outside telling us how to run our business" mentality.
Tell your friend that we're all in this together. I ain't runnin,' and I aint' scared.
I'm plenty concerned about the goals of the folks in the White House, though. They don't fight fair, and they're playing for keeps.
"We am so glad you are here. You'll find that the folks here in the south love where they live and are proud to be southerners. If you like all the things that make this place great, remember that when you vote. If you bring the same policies as the place you left, you'll make this place look like that place."
Something like that should be said to ALL Immigrants.
I know that he and I are on the same side, or else he wouldn't have cared enough to call. His name is Phil, he's my best friend, and he's got my back. I'm very fortunate. Yes, y'all would get along grand I'm sure, now that he knows your intention. People in the South are proud, and I'm proud to be Southern.
What is interesting is that the mass migration is EXACTLY what the Framers intended. If there are 50 separate and distinct states with only minimal Federal powers, each state is an incubator for ideas, both good and bad. The good ideas draw people from other parts of the country. The bad ideas drive people away. If the repellent states want to attract business and migration, they must change the state's policies and attract migration.
People are fleeing NY, IL, CA, MI, WI, etc., and moving to FL, TX, TN, AL, etc.
The problem is when the Federalist design is corrupted and the Federal government is granted powers never intended to be granted. If the bad law and bad policy is nation wide, where can you move to avoid exposure to it?
For all the concern regarding Romneycare, were I Romney's advisors, I'd be telling him to frame his position like this:
"I believe in Federalism. I believe in limited Federal powers. MA voted for a single payor system. This is what the majority of the residents of MA wanted. As the governor of that state, my job is to enact the policies of the majority of the citizens of that state. Do I believe it was good policy? I don't know. Time will tell. If it works for MA, I may become the model other states adopt. If it doesn't work, it's a policy other states can avoid. This is a state issue. Healthcare isn't one of the enumerated powers under Article 1, Section 8. It shouldn't be a problem tackled nationally. It falls directly in the lap of the Tenth Amendment. As President, I have a completely different role than I did as governor. States are not simply extensions of the Federal government."
People in the South are proud, and I'm proud to be Southern.
We are, and me, too.
Glitch, the challenge before us is to get EVERYONE who disagrees with where our country is headed to get to the polls in November! Phil was mad at me; that's cool, now he's knows what I was trying to accomplish by posting the link to that awful video. We ALL need to be so mad about what's happening in our country that we spread the word among our family and friends, including here in cyberspace, about the all the crap that's going on, and to VOTE! We have GOT to reclaim our country. If we don't do it in November, the NEXT four more years will get even worse.
Fatty, excellent post. You get it, I get it. Glitch gets it. But how do we get the people who don't get it to get it???
Lou "Mystic" Usher on the above video, after I told him it made me wanna throw up. Dave, ya' gotta' consider the source. The libs are pimps and panderers. Most have never worked at an honest or real job, were raised with a silver spoon, and are so insecure and jealous of people with common sense and enjoyable lives...all they are capable of doing, is to criticize and try to make ignorant fun of the people they can NEVER BE. I actually feel kinda' sorry that their lives are so miserable...on the other hand...**** 'EM. Ya gotta love Lou!
I could take you to a Walmart parking lot in Northern Pennsylvania or Western New York state to introduce you to the same people, they will have a slightly different accent, different shirts, and different license plates on their pick-ups.
I could take you to Tampa where there is such a mix of folks from all over the World it is crazy. We will go to the Walmart parking lot, it will be the same people, different shirts, different license plates on their pick-ups.
Fatty, excellent post. You get it, I get it. Glitch gets it. But how do we get the people who don't get it to get it???
Some simply don't WANT to get it. Many on Badweb refuse to get it.
A limited government isn't one that can create "fairness". These folks want equality, but are advocating fairness, two patently opposite and mutually exclusive objectives.
Equality says that no matter what law is created, it applies to everyone the same. What you do for yourself under that system is YOUR responsibility. It's equality of opportunity.
Fairness seeks to provide a baseline for all regardless of effort, ability, or intelligence. It's goal is equality of outcome. Under fairness, some people are treated preferentially to others. Citizen A has a "right" and Citizen B has an "obligation". This makes B a slave to A. This is the OPPOSITE of equality.
If you have made bad decisions in your life, if you didn't take the time or make the sacrifices, or put in the hard work, or you are just not talented, you want the Federal government to make the system "fair".
You know EXACTLY who I am talking about here on Badweb.
ALL THE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION, LIMITED GOVERNMENT, FEDERALISM, ET. AL. JUST PISSES THEM OFF.
Fatty, another excellent post. Hopefully we can change a mind here and there with all the conversations of late regarding the Constitution and rule of law in this country. The Founding Fathers had it right, and it's STILL right.
Mr. Obama, unfortunately, doesn't agree with us. He wants to be king instead of president, and wants to take more and more and more of your money and my money and distribute it to people of his choosing, to help them (and garner their vote, perhaps?). I wish the choice of what to do with my hard-earned money was MY choice, instead of HIS choice.
Interesting that that's EXACTLY how the Founders wanted it to be, too.
I watched him, on the day of his inauguration, swear an oath to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution, "so help me God." What a crock. I heard a suggestion the other day that his new movie with Tom Hanks should be called "The Lyin' King."

The above post by Glitch as stated by his friend is simply one of the best I have ever read. I may have been born and raised in NY but we agree completely. My state of birth is run by liberal idiots, it will not be where I am laid to rest. Currently searching for a new home. Mike
It's "fairness" to some, to others it's "risk abatement." They want a Mommy State, they want their rich Uncle Sam to take care of them, they don't want a choice, they want to live a luke warm life. No risk, no worry, no choice, what they don't realize is that a government big enough to give you everything, is big enough to leave you with nothing.
Right on Jeremy!
Mike, come on down, there's plenty room for your kind.
Hear a lot of "you're not from around here are ya?" It's funny, Ann's from North Georgia, I'm from Southern Appalachia. We don't talk the same. People from here say I sound "country", back home they say Ann sounds like a "Yankee"
I wish some of your southern folk would move north and bring the attitude of making the north more like the south. When you get away from the cities in the north, it tends to be a very different world with good folk. I've always enjoyed vacationing in the south. Good folks down there.
I can show you people up here who are every bit as scary looking and sounding as ANYONE in that video. They just happen to lean left up here. Bad teeth, bad hygiene, bad English, bad hair, dirt poor, etc. Yep, the cities in the north have it all in abundance.
I wish some of your southern folk would move north and bring the attitude of making the north more like the south. Never happen, it's too cold up y'alls way
It always seemed strange to me when some come down here to live, and then bitch that it's better where they came from...
