Uh oh.....as I was driving my tractor by the Jeep yesterday it seemed to have snagged it somehow.....now the Jeep is up by the shop in the ready to be worked on area. I swear I don't know how these things happen! |

we had this little rally called the WV Buell Rally for the past 5 years.... With the birth of EBR, just doesn't feel right calling it the "Buell" rally anymore to me. bring your ass, the bike and jeep over! Camp, ride, jeep, drink, eat... tell lies... its a fun weekend! |

I don't have a Jeep, but I do have an 85 Toyota pickup Bought it with a bad engine and in pretty rough shape. It did have power steering, high steer, 33's. Shackles and such. Trying to get it to pass emissions in AZ at the moment. It is a carb now, but I have EFI ready to swap in. Can't wait to start crawling here in AZ, have done a few trails with a friend, and it was absolutely awesome. |

I've been wanting to go since it began but I thought last year was the last one, that's why I was wondering. |

Damnut, We have 23 jeeps coming out to my place today for wheelin, bbq and bonfire today! Gonna be a masshole style fire in the field tonight... Next time I'll post it here too maybe you can bring the jeep down. We have several miles of trails at my place as well as some seriously hard core rock krawling near by. Pretty much the same old group as the Buell events, even got Hammer involved. Mike |

I thought last year was the last one it pretty much was. Every year it got bigger and more of the locals had to get involved... it went way beyond what the original idea was.... I'm hoping I can keep everything on a much smaller scale... |

Just ordered all of the parts needed to do this snorkel mod. I think I'm going to have to make it work on the passenger side though. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/homemade-jeep-s norkel-w-pics-794294/ Verne..... doors are on the way. |

Jeep upgrade = Domino effect Want a winch = buy winch. then mounting plate.... then new battery to handle winch... you may even need a new bumper. Belly up skid plate?... ya gotta buy at least a 1 inch body lift, Motor mount lift, Slip yoke eliminator, rear drive shaft... and THEN you can install the belly up skid... As a wise Vern once said.... "Ya fix one thing, Ya F-up something else" |

An old friend once lamented " I should have started with a title, an ID plate and a lug nut" instead of buying a jeep and modding it. |

Four-wheeling is a lot like motorcycling - - addictive and expensive. . . My favorite 4x4/motorcycling/sports car/gun shooting/etc. hobby related quote: "Spending money I don't have, on parts I don't need, to impress people I don't know..." Fun stuff, though. . . |

Started building the homemade snorkel setup yesterday. I have everything pretty much cut up and ready to weld, I'm just waiting for one more coupler so I can hook up my airbox to the 3" pipe that I'm using for my snorkel tubing. Here's some of what I accomplished yesterday.
This is what I'm building.
I'm hoping to have it done by this weekend. |

"Spending money I don't have, on parts I don't need, to impress people I don't know..." This is one of the reasons I enjoy building my own stuff. Kit parts are nice and cool looking, but if you can make parts yourself it is fun to sit around swapping stories about how you came to making it work. If I have a $10,000 budget to build a Jeep, I find it more fun to take a picture of someone else's Jeep where the money was spent, and build the same thing for $2500 with some home shop made stuff. It is fun to have a newly painted, showroom looking, full trail ready Jeep and stuff it into a deep mud hole the first time out. You always hear people say that there is no way they would do that with their $10,000 Jeep! That is what they are built for! |

10,000??? I wish that's all I had in this thing! And I've been doing it on the CHEAP compared to the average joe... Meh... can't take it with ya! |

"... but if you can make parts yourself it is fun to sit around swapping stories about how you came to making it work." Agree 100%; not that I've "made" everything myself, but when you wheel an "off-brand" rig (like say, a Ford Exploder), there is almost no aftermarket support, or if it was there, it dried up pretty quickly after the 2nd and 3rd generation of "mall curb 4x4 SUVs" were released.... Luckily, some components are common Jeep upgrades (8.8 rear axle with identical 5 on 4.5 stud configuration means lockers / axle shafts / etc. will be available), and 1-2 companies support the RBV (Ranger Based Vehicle), James Duff for instance, but almost everything on my rig has been modded or fabbed to "work." Fabbed the front Duff bumper to accommodate a winch, sent measurements to a guy in Colorado to build a rear bumper with tire carrier, worked with a buddy who welds for the rock sliders, found a guy that does custom body work for the safari doors, fabbed up a license plate bracket from a Chevy Astro to french the rear license plate into the rear hatch, etc., etc. Not that I'd mind having a dozen or so catalogs with a hundred plus bumper selections, but what I got works for me. . . And between the Atlas II, ARB lockers, winch with in cab controls, on-board air, blah, blah, blah, I'm in financially deeper than most...; but it's different, I've had it for almost 20 years, and will keep forever. . . |

Nice! How are you getting the pipe bent? Are you going to MIG weld it? |

I did what the guy did in the link I posted. I ordered a 3" 180* mandrel bend pipe from Summit, bought a straight piece of 3" pipe from my local auto parts store and a snorkel top from Egay. I'd like it to be finished before I send it out to get the driveshafts made. Total cost minus my welding and labor= $120 Yes I am going to mig weld it. |

How high will the opening of the snorkel be? I'm just wondering. My air cleaner opening is at about 56" above the ground. How high do I need to go? |

Not to offend. I was just wondering how high that will be from the ground to the top of your windshield. Mr. Medium Rig! I am afraid to put one on mine for it may go into thin air causing me to have to richen the carburetor. I've had it for almost 20 years, and will keep forever. . . That is where I am with my CJ. I got it sometime in 1997. I modify it more nearly every time we get serious about going out for a few weekend runs. Otherwise it can sit for up to a few years at a time, posed where I can see it.....and just look pretty. |
