It has been covered on several sites. Chipping away at the Constitution once again. I wonder if this is the kind of government intervention the Occupiers thought they would get. Seems government is getting bolder in their disregard for the Constitutional freedoms. G |

I might not agree with the "occupy" protests, but they still had the right to protest peacefully. Now I guess congress is rerighting/rewriting the bill of rights. |

The occupy folks DO DID have the right to protest peacefully, and many/most did. The ones who didn't were, I hope and assume, dealt with in a lawful, legal manner.
quote:Bill of Rights, Amendment I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Pretty cut and dried. Except it seems, as noted already, Congress The King is rewriting the Bill of Rights right in front of our bewildered eyes. |

quote:The bill—H.R. 347, or the “Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011”—was passed by unanimous consent in the Senate, while only Ron Paul and two other Republicans voted against the bill in the House of Representatives (the bill passed 388-3). Not a single Democratic politician voted against the bill.
For this, and many other reasons, Ron Paul deserves to be our next President. This man respects our Constitution and Bill of Rights. |

quote:Thomas Jefferson 1791 — Opinion on National Bank Constitutional Interpretation They are not to do anything they please to provide for the general welfare, but only to lay taxes for that purpose. To consider the latter phrase not as describing the purpose of the first, but as giving a distinct and independent power to do any act they please which may be good for the Union, would render all the preceding and subsequent enumerations of power completely useless. It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they would be the sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please...Certainly no such universal power was meant to be given them. It was intended to lace them up straightly within the enumerated powers and those without which, as means, these powers could not be carried into effect. ....H.R. 347 comes on the heels of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which was signed by President Obama into law on December 31, 2011. The NDAA gives the president the power to order the assassination and incarceration of any person—including a US citizen—anywhere in the world without charge or trial. History does not repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme. "The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country." --Adolf Hitler, dinner talk on April 11, 1942, quoted in Hitler's Table Talk 1941-44: His Private Conversations, Second Edition (1973), Pg. 425-426. Translated by Norman Cameron and R. H. Stevens. Introduced and with a new preface by H. R. Trevor-Roper. The original German papers were known as Bormann-Vermerke. This is why I can't support Romney, Newt or Santorum in this primary because they believe in sacrificing liberty for security. Someone needs to slam on the brakes and I'll vote for the guy who's most likely to do that. |

All the Republicans needed was a candidate . . just one candidate. But I fear too many of the good and qualified have been sent, like Stanley Druckemnmiiler, to the edge of the track. We've been subjected to an endless series of debates, during which foolish folks consumed with the quest for power, allowed themselves to be paraded into a game show format . . . . "in one word, describe your vision for the world". I doubt you could scour the ranks and find 4 less qualified folks. We deserve better leaders. By the way . . put in the column that hopes the final Republican nominee hasn't appeared yet. I'll know more next week . . . My Mom has appointments as each of the 4 comes to her office to meet with her to state their case. Better her than I. |

We deserve better leaders. We deserve a person with the integrity and courage of Ron Paul, someone who actually believes in the Constitution and our rights as American citizens and isn't just talking out his or her political ass. It's a shame such a Presidential candidate doesn't exist. Hey, wait a minute.................. |

I agree. But . . . Ron Paul and I have something in common. PRECISELY the same chance of being elected. Don't get me wrong . . he has some good ideas. But he's unelectable. It says something that "marketing and packaging" has come to hold more value than values, vision and integrity. |

The Socialists in the quoted article are largely correct - now that it's THEIR ox that is being gored. However...We don't deserve better leaders, we must DEMAND a better electorate! Those of us who can name candidates on (fill in the blank) reality show, who think that celebrities have anything of importance to say or do... WE are the ones that are driving the "DEMAND" for candidate-debates-as-entertainment. May as well have Donald Trump and the Miss Universe organization handle "debate" management. In our ignorance we expect to have complex issues "solved" in sound-bites. The public has been too long at the intellectual trough with their mouths open, standing and waiting for the next "feeding." The entertainment business (formerly referred to as "news") is paying attention. We seem to be getting what we demand. When I last owned a TV, a 21 inch tube was considered large enough and the internet was only used by Defense and a few odd characters. The rest of us were connecting to local bulletin boards. I am embarrassed by this all. (Message edited by slaughter on March 04, 2012) |

I agree with Slaughter. Too much of the electorate either doesn't care, or advocates for, Constitutional erosion and deficit spending. Add to that the coming tide of glittering generalities and attack ads from the Obama campaign machine, and you get a good idea of where this is going. |

We deserve better leaders. While the current candidates may not answer for all criterion, to all voters ANY of the repubs is better than the current Campainer in Thief Heinlen said it best, in essence that the president should be drug into office kicking and screaming, but when in place handles the office properly ,ALSO any one who whants the office has some alterior motive usualy self serving. Ron Paul's views on forign poloicy scare me otherwise I could vote for him, As for further eroding the constutional freedons we see a continuing assult on gun ownership, freedom of speech, theft by taxation, taxation with out represenataion, and it just goes on. in the end its }ABO (Message edited by oldog on March 08, 2012) |

No clue if this is accurate . . . it sure doesn't sound like Buffet. But . . . I'd go for this deal in a heartbeat.
quote: Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling: "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure. Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time? THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!
