Interestingly enough, as TSA officials like to routinely point out, their agency’s acronym stands for Transportation Security Administration, not the Airport Security Administration. This fact has extended the TSA’s reach has far beyond the confines of our nation’s airports. Many of my constituents discovered this first hand this past fall as those familiar blue uniforms and badges appeared on Tennessee highways. In October Tennessee became the first state to conduct a statewide Department of Homeland Security Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) team operation which randomly inspected Tennessee truck drivers and cars.

How long before we have roadside full-body pat downs and portable body scanners?

That pesky 4th amendment only applies when you are inside your house (assuming the TSA is not in your house at the moment.)

What, do you think travel by government highways is a right?

I don't find the Bill of Rights to be pesky at all.

Here's the 4th amendment:

quote:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The Founders intended for my rights as an American citizen to be secure. Period.

The problem with that line of thinking is that courts have consistently ruled that road blocks/random checks/sobriety checkpoints do not violate the 4th amendment. Granted, those judges should be thrown off the bench and sent to remedial civics classes, but that's where it stands.

The purpose of Rep. Blackburn's op-ed piece seems to be to promote her particular piece of legislation.

VIPR teams have been around for awhile: http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/vipr_blockisla nd.shtm. It also seems that VIPR teams are more "show" than "go." They are teamed with other LEOs and serve as a visual deterrent and an extra set of eyes. I don't see any indication that they act independently with LEO authority, as the good congresswoman's opinion seems to indicate.

What, Comrade Citizen, these are the People's Roads, you use them at our permission, and to your benefit. Surely you do not wish to have a lawless apocolyptic maurading hordes in unsafe jalopies dodging safety, tolls, security, speed limits, seat belt laws, sobriety, cell phone use, appropriate licensing, valid scale weight registries or appropriate duty tariffs.
Surely you are safer from our Security.
If you object, it means you have something to hide, or are up to terrorist activities.

Papers, Comrade Citizen, it will be only a few moments.....
oh and please remove your belt, shoes, and any jewelry

TSA is token jobs since America doesn't want to produce because it costs too much because fuel and electricity are so high and then health care is outrageous because half of America wants "free" condoms and birf control as well as "free" coverage till their late 20's. Why couldn't Columbus have discovered a country that was oil rich? Oh that's right we are oil rich but we have too many politicians fighting to keep us spending all of our spare money on fuel so the caribou don't have to relocate 500 yards from their stomping grounds.

It's for the good of Mother Earth that we "necessarily increase" the prices of energy, especially gas! Gas is as evil as terrorists, and until we realize that the US won't be able to continue.

But with TSA guarding our highways, and perhaps GPS monitoring to make sure we don't drive too much, especially for pleasure, hopefully we can make an improvement for the good of all.

"Mission, Vision, and Core Values

God I hate that BS when it is vomited from the mouths of those that don't believe in it.

I had an division administrator once that acted as cheer leader with a co-chearleader that was a plow truck driver waste an entire divisions week trying to teach the group the importance of GRID.

Many weeks afterwards the Beeotch made the statement "don't invest in your jobs"

What the H E double hockey sticks!

Stupid me didn't listen....now I have to survive another 20 years before I can leave...she of course moved on...
