Because I get a lot of test bikes now, I went for a new KLR 650 as my main ride. Versatile, comfortable, economical and good old fashioned fun. Not sick fun like a Buell. Wring it's neck and flog it fun. |

I picked up a '05 Blast w/650 miles for ~$1600. But I spent ~$2k modding it. Nels |

My KLR-250 would cruise along at 60 MPH all day long, and hit 70 on the interstate if necessary (and if you had 20 seconds or so to get there). |

I got the smallest rear sprocket on my son's DRZ that was available. Runs a 70mph without feeling taxed, and will do about 105mph with enough road! I have owned 25+ bikes and by far this thing(with the right tires) corners like nothing else... The Ducati is for the Sunday brunch runs! See ya all a homecoming!

Yeah, I NEED a D/S... but the gearing for a thumper precludes highway practicality. The only time I'm on the freeway is to get out of town, then I'm down to highways and country roads, but my 250cc has no problem whatsoever on the freeway. It'll cruise in the 65-70 mph range all day long. It tops out about 85. With a 6-speed gearbox, it still works well on the trails too. (Yamaha WR250R with stock gearing) It's a backup bike! Being capable of freeway travel should be good enough, it doesn't have to be made for it! |

Get something completely different. Why waste garage space with bikes that overlap each other's usefulness? I (within the past week) got rid of my '02 X1 and got an '04 DRZ400S. Makes a much better pairing with the '09 XT IMO. The XT is good for long distance and twisties. The DRZ is good for trips around town and everything dirty - and with stock gearing STILL gives me the option of jumping on the interstate if need be. And so far the thing appears to be in the neighborhood of 60mpg! Yeah.. this is gonna be a good summer even if gas does hit $5/gal. |

Well, once again the BW proves what matters is "who ya know"... Thanks to Vern, I am now the proud owner of a '79 GL1000 with 54Kish miles and original paint! Turns out his brother had 3 GL's, needed to sell this one, and- voila! I now have my commuter/traveler/GF carryin' bike! On the short list of gotta do's: Oil change, maybe new battery, freshen up the brake calipers, new timing belts, and a decent spit-shine. Anyone have further suggestions/experience with these old 'Wings? Again, THANKS VERN! I owe ya a tasty jar of goodness (what me and the GF end up canning, OR... well, you know.) |

Well that was quick! Congrats on the bike, that is a great one to fix up for a commuter. It'll be a smooth ride for sure. Oh, you are welcome. |
