A top official with the National Rifle Association said Friday that President Obama will move to "destroy" gun rights and "erase" the Second Amendment if he is re-elected in November. While delivering one of the liveliest and best-received speeches at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said the president's low-key approach to gun rights during his first term was "a "conspiracy to ensure re-election by lulling gun owners to sleep." "All that first term, lip service to gun owners is just part of a massive Obama conspiracy to deceive voters and hide his true intentions to destroy the Second Amendment during his second term," he said. "We see the president's strategy crystal clear: Get re-elected and, with no more elections to worry about, get busy dismantling and destroying our firearms' freedom, erase the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights and excise it from the U.S. Constitution." Mr. LaPierre said the president's two Supreme Court appointees — Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan— are "two of the most rabid anti-gun justices in history." He also accused Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of being a foe of gun rights. And with the possibility of two or more Supreme Court justice positions opening during the next four years, the NRA official warned that gun ownership would be in jeopardy if Mr. Obama stays in office. "If we get one more like those three, the Second Amendment is finished," he said. "It'll be the end of our freedom forever." Mr. LaPierre, who said "there is no greater freedom than to own a firearm," predicted that gun owners will rally en masse to defeat Mr. Obama in November. "All of what we know is good and right about America, all of it could be lost if Barrack Obama is re-elected," he said. "It's all or nothing." |

It's well known that 'they' disarm the public before they institute 'utopian' ideals. I can't remember, but doesn't it require a 2/3 vote to perform an amendment? Some of the politicians are rats, but smart rats none the less who realize that an all out gun grab would be suicide. |

"No greater freedom than to own a firearm"??? Whack job. Recent history shows gun rights rebounding strongly. I think Obama would like to infringe on them, but I don't see it happening any time soon. I could be wrong. |

While Wayne is a bit strident, he's right. We have here another thread on religious freedom. 1st amendment. How long can we keep worshipping as we chose when the only people allowed to be armed are the guards of the elite and wealthy? History shows that an armed populace is the nightmare of tyrants. Japan was not eager to invade America because of our gun ownership. ( Not a Yamamoto quote it was post war. ) In 1960, Robert Menard was a Commander aboard the USS Constellation when he was part of a meeting between United States Navy personnel and their counterparts in the Japanese Defense Forces. Fifteen years had passed since VJ day, most of those at the meeting were WWII veterans, and men who had fought each other to the death at sea were now comrades in battle who could confide in one another. Someone at the table asked a Japanese admiral why, with the Pacific Fleet devastated at Pearl Harbor and the mainland US forces in what Japan had to know was a pathetic state of unreadiness, Japan had not simply invaded the West Coast. Menard would never forget the crafty look on the Japanese commander’s face as he frankly answered the question. You are right, he told the Americans. We did indeed know much about your preparedness. We knew that probably every second home in your country contained firearms. We knew that your country actually had state championships for private citizens shooting military rifles. We were not fools to set foot in such quicksand. Japan well understood the need to keep the peasants unarmed. For a common man to have a weapon was to face death if discovered. Why do you think most "kung fu" weapons are agricultural tools? But, in this case it's not the philosophy of why we have the Second Amendment, but If it is Obama's intention to strike it down, probably by international treaty. Since Hillary has been working hard on that ever since Barack gave her the Sec. State job ( presumably to defuse her as an opponent ) and virtually every one of his appointees has been pro-disarm the peasants... AND that famous quote from a San Fran fundraiser with uber-liberal supporters about bitterly clinging.... What do YOU think his intentions are? |

Jesus H Keerist. Didn't we hear this same crap four years ago? Look; Obama is a jackass. But the haters really need to come up with something different, for a change. What makes you think and believe that Congress is going to allow anything different than what they've already allowed? I'm waiting for a legitemate reason to hate the Moron. Maybe something real and tangible; like The Jackass killed the Space Program. I 've heard about how he's going to take away our guns; I just ain't seeing it happen. |

LaPierre is engaging in hyperbole (though he probably doesn't think so). He's singing to the choir, not delivering news. I seriously doubt that Democrats will spend the prohibitively expensive political capital necessary to orchestrate "the end of our freedom forever." But that's just my opinion. |

I live in TN. Good luck with that. Texas alone is the eighth strongest military, and that's just the citizenry. Tennessee is the upper peninsula of Texas. "I sold it at a gun show" will become as ubiquitous as "I do not recall, Senator." |

I 've heard about how he's going to take away our guns; I just ain't seeing it happen. treaty beats law. There is a UN treaty designed to disarm the peasants. Kumabya. Good thing I don't own any. Gave them all away. Peaceful I am. Threat I am not. Really. (Message edited by aesquire on February 10, 2012) |

Wake up Guys Obama and Hillary are working on the UN Small Arms treaty to disarm the US Senate approval is all that is needed to Confirm a Treaty. The Assualt weapons ban cost Dem the next elections and The pro gun response cost dems the next election cycle Gingrich took a lot of the Credit with the Contract with America But the Progun folks showed up and voted. The Early 90s saw the Greatist number of competitors a Camp Perrys National Matches Since the 1950s when you were paid to shoot. Here in Florida if your on Medicaid etc the Dr asks you if you have Guns in your home. An End Run on gun registration ( Electronic Medical Records any one) Florida passed a law against it and the Feds and Dr Lobby went nuts. Suing claiming the State of Fla was interfereing with the DR Patient relation ship. If you think most Pols are pro gun your wrong. If your armed you can resist. Who killed most of the people in the last century Invaders ( attacks by another Country) ? No most of the people killed in war ethnic cleansing Police actions were killed by thier own governments! Thats is why with out the 2nd amendment all of the others are worthless. |

Illinois is looking at forcing us to register all of our guns at $65 a piece. Must renew every 5 years. Felony to not register. They just want to scare people into registering weapons that the state may not know about. No doubt confiscation will follow at some future time. If I'm still in this state when they pass this I'll be moving all my guns out of state. I will soon follow. I plan on getting out of this hell hole if the real estate market ever picks up and I can sell my house. I've had enough of this state. Keep an eye on Rahm! |

Typical hysteria during an election year by the NRA. Now they may have an argument if there was some smoking gun like say a plot to illegally sell gangs American made weapons and blame it on gun dealers as an excuse to enact more laws. That would be conclusive proof the blue party wants to erase the second amendment but no politician is that stupid right? |

The only reason the government could possibly have for registration of firearms is to know where they are so they can come GET them. Registration is infringement. |

The NRA has done a great job with the Heller case and CCW nearing universal law in the 50 states With Ill and Ny being the hold outs. With Obamas distain for Congress and the Constitution in General its just a matter of Time before wants the people disarmed. He is on the fast track to a Dictator mindset. Denial of the mans true nature is dangerous. If his political mentor Ayers and Dornhe and thier Weather Underground had been successful the plan was to kill off those that can't be reeducated They planned on having to kill 25million or about 10% of the population. |
