I've spent hours on line looking for a good quality US or european made folding utility knife, but have not had much sucess. I'm looking for the kind that take replaceable utility blades. Anybody know of some good ones?

That's rather smart Zip, I might just have to get one myself.

I have had several for use at work with the metal handle or plastic inserts but I lost it again and some one got me a Gerber with a molded plastic handle.

Best one I have used. It is a little harder to unlatch to close as others, overall made well.

I have the earlier model of this one:http://www.gerber-tools.com/Gerber-EAB-LITE-31-000 345.php
I use it everyday. Damned handy and not the end of the world if you lose it.

www.benchmade.com

I carry either a Gerber multiplier or a Benchmade 555 Griptilian at all times.

Which reminds me...I need to send the Benchmade back to OR for their lifetime-sharpening warranty : )

Sorry, just saw you're looking for replaceable blades. You could get 2 benchmades, and cycle them through the sharpening system?

Are those Gerber's made in the US though? I did find some of them when I was looking last night, but couldn't determine where they were made.

Here's the manufacturers homepage;

http://www.gerbergear.com/

But I couldn't find any info on where they're made.

Here's a site for American made knives.

If you want a Swiss Army knife, drop me a line, I can see Switzerland from my house.

I have a Craftsman folding utility knife. It is really nice but I am not sure where Craftsman has made anymore.

Very few Gerber knives are NOT made in China now.

I have the same knife as Buelltoys. Good knife, nice part is if something breaks on it, you go get it replaced for free.

Your right Slaughter,

I found out all of their razor knives are made in china : (

The same with Craftsman. Sure they will replace it, but I want non chinese tools.

+1 on the Benchmade Griptilian. I got one as a gift (everyone should be so lucky), and while I can't explain why its such a fantastic knife, I sure know it.

It is hard to get US made, US Sourced material ANYTHING.

Sitting here wearing my Chippewa boots, Prison Blue denims - but still most all my tools, certainly all my electronics... you name it are "imports."
