This past summer, when I had my annual Physical, the doctor noticed something funny with the sound of my heart. After an Ultrasound, it was determined that I had a severe, but not critical stenosis of the Aortic valve. Since I was showing no symptoms, the Cardiologist decided to wait and see how things progressed before recommending surgery. In the three months since I saw him last, I've developed a number of symptoms. Today, I saw him again, and I'm going to have valve replacement surgery in the very near future. He didn't say it, but judging from his actions, I thing my condition moved from severe to very close to critical. Tomorrow, I'll be getting an Angiogram to determine if I need any bypasses in addition to the valve replacement. Once the specialists have determined what I need, they'll set a date. My Grandfather died from heart problems, back in 1955. I know that valve replacement is pretty much a routine procedure anymore, but the idea of being split open like a lobster, and having a chunk of my heart cut out and replaced makes me more than a little nervous. If you pray; I'd really appreciate a few prayers. If you believe in Positive Energy; please send some my way. |

Crusty, you are my hero. You can do this and do it well. I know the following is meaningless drivel when you are in line to face the surgery, but you are in so much better physical shape otherwise, than my step dad. He had five blockages fixed when he was seventy one and had so many other physical maladies that we thought this may be too much for him. He came out feeling better than he had in years. My father in law said the same. He had four blocked arteries fixed when he was seventy nine. He bought a Goldwing trike for his eightieth birthday three years ago. Still kicking it! My best to you my good friend. |

My youngest daughter (22) had her pulmonary valve replaced a couple years ago. She just finished a 2-week snorkeling biology class in the Bahamas. These doctors do wonderful things. We'll be thinking of you. Oh, and by the way if you start scratching your back on corners and mooing, well that is just the side effects. |

Good luck, brother. My dad passed from heart disease and many of his family died of the same. My mom has stage four cancer and a lot of her side of the family succumb to it. I can't wait to find out what I've got coming... |

With a name like Crusty you know you can't die before you're 90 so try to take it easy and let those giant brained surgeons do their thing. Good stuff sent from Jersey but I don't know if it's a prayer or energy but whatever it is it's good. |

Froggy, don't stop believing in the BBQ. Skin, nothing good comes from Jersey except fat cat sandwiches. Crusty, keep the faith. I know more than a couple of people who have had more than a couple heart surgeries and are more frail than you and they're doing just fine. Surgery is scary but the alternatives are scarier. Good mojo sent. |

May our heavenly Father guide the hand of your surgeon and may peace of mind comfort you in your time of need.Good health to you! From me and my friends here with me on the opposite side of the pacific ocean. The following is a short story to illustrate just how brilliant these Surgeons really are by comparison. A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the engine of a Harley Davidson motorcycle when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop.. The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you a question?" The surgeon a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, fix 'em, put 'em back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?" The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, and whispered to the mechanic... "Try doing it with the engine running." Cheers! |
