Dodge have resurrected the Dart, and it's based on an enlarged Alfa Giulietta platform. So you lucky people will soon be getting some decent motors, just hope that eventually they bring the diesels over for you. The 1.9 jtd multijet kicks out 150hp stock & can be remapped out to over 200. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/01/2013-do dge-dart-officially-revealed-2012-detroit-auto-sho w.html |

My vote goes to an old Dart too. That new 'Dart' looks like a Neon and a Prius had a 'Swinger' party..... Get it? It looks like every other econo-hybrid-hatched P.O.S. on the road. |

Maybe it looks like that but the platform is a superb drive, Giulietta & Lancia Delta are both terrific cars. I'd rather have an old Dart too to be honest, so if you've a half decent, cheap one with a 318 or 340 in let me know. I once owned a Plymouth Scamp, same car different badges, with a 225 slant 6 in now that was a bulletproof motor. |

It isn't a bad looking car. I would drive one. A 2.4L turbocharged version wouldn't be bad. AWD or RWD would be preferable. |

I agree with Fatty. Nice looking and much nicer looking than that ugly Prius. I am sure a turbo version will show up in the future. |

I was intrigued when I saw teaser pics of individual parts of the car, then I saw the whole thing and it doesn't work for me... Looks too much like a Hyundai Elantra. |

But why even bother to name it "Dart"? No one in a million years would ever look at that an say that it reminds them of the original Dodge Dart. |

Agree Jim. To me, why mangle the historical name of an iconic Dodge model? As bad as what GM did to the GTO, Malibu and Impala. |

As someone who never heard of the any of those cars before their modern versions, I don't give a crap. The general public doesn't either. At least with a reused name, they have some previously established recognition, when you hear the name Dart, you will know it is a Dodge. They can take advantage of that with marketing. GM did nothing wrong with the GTO, Malibu and Impala. The GTO was a performance car back in the day, it was a performance car a few years ago. The Malibu and Impala were nice sedans back in the day, they are nice sedans today. Hell they were all just high level trims on other cars before they became their own models. I don't know much about the Dart, so I can't comment on how that stacks up, but a quick glance at the Wikipedia page shows it to be a small cheap sedan, just like the new one at the auto show. |

No one in a million years would ever look at that an say that it reminds them of the original Dodge Dart. Agreed, but what do you call the "Original" ? This from 1960?
Or this '62?
Or one of the last a '76?
None of them look like the other, but that's kinda the point. |

Looks like a much better car than the Caliber. I have NOT like the trend in Dodge styling. The squared off look is fine on Jeeps, but the combination of chunky boxy mini station wagon and overcomplex headlamp ( and expensive lights too ) looks like they sold the wind tunnel and let the company presidents 4 year old design the cars with crayons. I do mildly resent the use of the old name. I felt the same with the 80's Challenger when a pretty nice little Mitsubishi got the name. ( AND LOVE the new Challenger. Retro sex. ) But if I can get the Fiat 500 Abarth engine? How much more does this anonymous looking Aero-pod mass over the 500? What's the 0-60 time? !/4 mile? MPG? final word, nice car. mild resentment on name issue. The Dart variants were some great cars, especially the Demons and 340 cars. ( cheap, but great values, and good performance. ) The 225 slant six was the best of breed. Wasn't that hard to make go fast either. |

yes, but with the work and success that they have had with the challenger, they could have done a smaller, lighter, more economical in trim and cost Dart with true retro styling ... and if you look at the industry, THE buzz is retro. VW Bug, Fiat C500, Mini Cooper, Mustang, Camero, Challenger, even the HHR, and the PT Cruiser to an extent. They missed the mark. At true killer Dart would have been a two door 300 with shortened wheelbase... with the optional Hemi to boot. Even the Magnum could have been more of a Nomad through back if it were a two door Who nailed a killer econo shoe box ?... 2010 Kia Koupe two door (they changed it for 11/12 - yuck) but they had the old pony car lines down to a T, good milage, sporty performance - and with depreciation... they should be cheap as hell come next year |

the Kia Forte Koup http://best-cars-collections.blogspot.com/2010/12/ 2010-kia-koup-sx-r-in-canada.html Had they done something similar, with front engine, rear drive, Hemi optioned.... dayum |

Grumpy, one of my high school buddies had a '64 with a slant-6 with 3 speed column shifter... bulletproof indeed, and pulled like a train. That was a sweet car with a lot of style. The new version might be a great car but in the style department I have to give it a FAIL. |

What you need to hope for is that they can get the European models past the EPA. Then you can have one of these. http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/6582 8/alfa_159_q4_sportwagon.html Who cares what badge they put on it. |

The 1.4 turbo sounds pretty decent for performance - 160/184 is on par with my old '91 Daytona's 2.5 turbo for power, and I'm sure it's a whole lot more efficient. Not that my Daytona is a gas-hog; mid-high 20s are easy in that car, even if I keep boosting it I like the design. They definitely have the family look with the Charger taillights. The front end looks nearly-import to me, and I'm surprised at how they subdued the classic Dodge cross-hair grille...but the big lower opening (mouth) looks primed for an SRT version with a big ol' front-mount intercooler. Does the exterior look a little like "grown-up Neon"? Sure. But I liked the Neon, too. And the interior looks NICE. http://www.dodge.com/en/2013/dart/ Now, they just need to bring back the Volare
I don't mind the name-recycling...but it still bugs me that the new Charger is a sedan. They nailed the Challenger, so I'll give 'em a little leeway...but the Charger? Should be Coronet, IMO. At least - like the Dart - you could get the original in a sedan. |

I don't like the car I don't care bout the name of it or why they bothered to change the name, a Neon is a cheap sedan too, so was the shadow so why not use those names thats more what it is. Until like 77 when all cars got ugly except a few the Dart was the poor boy's muscle car. When I was 17,in 81 a 75 camaro or chicken would set you back say $2K and you could bag a Dart with a 318 for like a grand. Anybody remember shackles? |

My Blue 67 Dart. The white one belongs to a good friend of mine. I think Ma Mopar needs new names for new cars. (Message edited by 273-4 on January 15, 2012) |

This new one looks extrodinarily bland from every angle, and the inside looks about as nice and pasticy as a decade-plus old GM product. Seems pretty obvious that this car was supposed to be something else and dodge just wedged their grill in there and redid the tail lights. I don't mind name ressurection as long as the new model fits the same as the old by purpose, not design. Chrysler does it a lot and mostly nails it - 300, Charger (the 2-door thing was more of an era and less of being specifically a coupe), Challeneger (even though it's WAY too heavy), etc. This new Dart fills the same market as the old one. The one that irks me is the new Camaro. Great car, but not a Camaro by any measure but appearance. |

So Mr Buell shouldn't have named the naked version of the XB12 Lightning, because he'd already used that name for the X1 Tuber? And they looked nothing like each other either. New Mini, what an abortion, it's nearly as big as the first Range Rovers. It's only a name, I'll see what the car's like before judging. |

New Mini, what an abortion, it's nearly as big as the first Range Rovers. I think it's interesting how the typical American car has shrunk in size over time and the european has grown (examples being the Mini, 500, etc). Pretty soon everything will be the same size, lol. |
