It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child.
Good for her, she just saved the tax payers of Oklahoma a ton of money and someone else the heartache of getting their stuff stolen by the no good thief.
On the phone for 21 minutes with 911. Good thing she was prepared and able! Still, stupid people think the government can take care of them. I'm proud of that girl!
She did what she had to, thank God she was prepaired. The sad thing is that even if it's justified, killing somebody can really mess with your mind. Hope she can deal with it. This reminds me, time to get some more range time in with my daughter.
..+1 to what everyone else has said."Gun control is being able to hit your target".In some states(unfortunately)they'd be going after her for having a gun(thank you anti-gun fruit cakes)and relatives/family members would sue her and do the whiny slobbering story of "he was a really good person blah,blah,blah.." lines of bs...piss on 'em all.Hooray for her and the 911 dispatcher for keeping the girl cool.Got rid of that pos the least expensive way!!!!
"She will probably be sued by the victim's family." Did she yell out a verbal warning or a give warning shot? Seems like it would be obvious that she would have.
She should be fine legally, every State recognizes the "castle doctrine" though to differing degrees. Basically it means that one must attempt to retreat from a threat before utilizing deadly physical force EXCEPT in one's domicile. Where one has a reasonable expectation of being safe and should NOT have to flee that safety in the face of danger. The Criminal Law is generally clear on this principle. Civil law can and may be different though, so yeah, she may indeed be party to a wrongful death suit. In light of the circumstances, multiple intruders, young mother/widow with baby, in the safety of her home, called the authorities for assistance, etc. I would hope any decision would be in her favor or else our country really has fallen into the rabbit hole.
Nothing more fearsome in nature than a mother with her offspring. Good for her and hopefully the message is heeded by those who dare invade someone else's home....
Funny thing about guns and law suits. I was at the range this morning. One of my friends had his lawyer show up for the first time with a new gun. Apparently they have had "gun discussions" in the past. So the lawyer is asking for some basic training from my friend. I got done and hung in the lobby with some others (we usually hit lunch after the range on Thursdays). So my buddy teaching the lawyer comes out and says, lets get the heck out of hear. He was really kind of spooked about teaching his lawyer to shoot, saying there's no telling how long that could follow him. I can see his point.
She's better than just ok in my book.
That would be OK as in Okrahoma.
She did what she had to do. Good for her! I hope she can deal with the mental aftermath. Situations like that can really mess with you. If anything she should be able to sue the surviving intruder for the suffering caused to her and her child.
Yes. Killing someone is no small thing, even if you were only defending your self. It's going to leave a mark. Having some bastard break into her house and threaten her with a knife isn't the end of the torment she will suffer. I wish her a speedy recovery.
This story brought a tear to my eye. Justice, plain, simple, swift, and correctly done. The good guys get to win one!
It was great to see a gun owner who knew, with confidence, how to handle the weapon. She knew what would happen when it was aimed and the trigger squeezed.
Hearing the 911 tape she was amazingly collected, at least she sounded collected. When you get out in the country the police can be over an hour away. Even in a city they are most likely going to only show up for the clean up.
I am sure with a good lawyer she could sue there family for the emotional stress she will have from having to kill him. I hope some bleeding hart liberal doesn't try and mess with her. Good on her!!!
Obamaville isn't most places. IL is the only state that still has no concealed carry provision what so ever. Crook county has made it very difficult to buy a gun. First you must get approved training from a qualified range that aren't that will never be allowed to open their doors.
Even in DuPage county where I live it's tough to open a range. We have a range that just opened close to my home. Great news, but it was a long time coming. Literally years! That's a long time to have a huge amount of capital tied up. Even the name the chose caused problems. Imagine a gun shop not being allowed to call themselves "Gun World". Between the PC police and the EPA I'm amazed they finally opened their doors. The good news for them now is that they have very little competition in the area. It's little wonder that some of the folks I shoot with travel from Crook county to do it. I do my best to never cross their border with my gun bag in my car. I've heard stories of guns being illegally confiscated in car searches. Sure you can fight in court, but unless the gun is very expensive, it's cheaper to just replace it and they know that. They just want the guns "off the streets" even if they are only taking away guns from the legal owners.
