Just got my latest Motorcycle Consumer News today (great timing, been raining for 2 days)- the last page is an article by Fred Rau concerning bogus ticket scams perpetrated by various law enforcement outfits and municipalities... apparently there's a new trend in setting up fake "construction zones", dressing LEO's as workers, dropping the speed limit and doubling the fines, all in the name of raising monies for these towns. Also, illegally shortening the yellow light durations at red light camera intersections... He quotes info from The National Speed Trap Exchange and The National Motorists Association in exposing these practices- real eye opening stuff! Anyone here familiar with these slimeball outfits? Do tell... Also, they reviewed a product called the RICOR Inertia Active Suspension, real interesting new doodad to greatly improve a bike's front suspension- I suspect lots of us could benefit from a set of these. Quite glad to be a MCN subscriber... always good content! |

BTW, I know Froggy can do it, but who here has the ability to scan and post a shot of that page? Provided that it's kosher to do so, mind you... I do believe we'd all benefit from reading that piece. |

Huh, did you say something? I get MCN's online content but figured it being a Brit mag, it wasn't available here. |

Strok- Motorcycle Consumer News is written, published, even printed right here in the good ole USA- not sure what Brit mag you're referring to- I've always enjoyed looking at a couple of them occasionally for their edginess, can't get that from all the "vanilla" mags here except the Horse... This issue is the January '12 one- many of the past month's articles are available online, but it's worth the $$$ to get the paper in the mailbox. |

I haven't seen this, but did see an article some time back that was about some tiny little town out west, something like 100 people or less, I want to say it was utah, but it was about the corrupt police dept, doing this very type of thing, and the corruption involved. If I remember when a lawsuit was brought against them a judge dismantled the 6 man police dept. I think maybe the chief went to jail. Wish I could remember where I had seen that. |

This almost sounds like the plot of The California Kid. Great movie; Hot Hi-boy, corrupt cop, small town and vengeance. |

it will teach those who get a ticket in the fake construction zone to actually slow down in a real construction zone and possibly save the life of a worker who is busting his butt in the heat/cold to put food on his family table. I don't agree with shortening the yellow light though. Your all big boys, obey the road signs and you will be just fine. Otherwise you can't bitch about it. |

Ken- well, going on 5-6 years now, hard to say for sure... Rah- good point. In a REAL construction zone, with REAL workers, folks should do right, or suffer the con$equences. |

Im sure wolfridgerider knows this 'town' I got pulled over everytime I went through... 60 residents, 14 officers, 400,000 annual ticket revenue in what was less than a 1/4 of Broad St Datsun, you beat me to it! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Rome,_Ohio (Message edited by thumper74 on December 17, 2011) |

In terms of the ricor shocks; that tech has been used on mountain bikes for years (see specialized 'brain' inertial valve) not sure how much help it would be to motorcycle performance, but time will tell I suppose. |

I agree with this post 100% Some make it out to be this super terrible thing that they are setting up fake construction zones to raise revenue - but just remember that its the driver/rider that chooses to speed in those zones. You cant blame the police for this sort of thing. |

Datsaxman, That may be it, sure sounds a lot like it, but for some reason I thought that they broke it up, township and all. Don't know why I thought it was out west. Oh well. Not the first time I've been wrong, wont be the last. |

That said, if you are traveling through wyoming, be wary of any small towns, I wouldnt say that it rises to the level of that case, but you definately want to follow the limits, they like tourist money. |

Man, states are looking way worse than Europe does when it comes to these things. German's are way more liberal about their speed setups than we are. |

Yellow dwell is dictated by MUTCD. Anyone ever seen any evidence of one that ha s been found to be, actually, outside spec? I'm not sure either a NEMA or 170 controller will accept an out of spec time. http://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/publications/fhwahop08024/chapter6.htm (Message edited by Court on December 18, 2011) |
