Blake, I did not post it as a point of view - I just don't know where the extra expenses are coming from. Please enlighten me. I mean, you could always argue that we could lay off many government employees if we could somehow miraculously get rid of corruption and fraud so we would not have these cases to try, but that ain't happening. So where would we be able to save, or "not to spend?" I don't see it, but I am open to hearing what everyone's thinking is on this.

Fahren, I have two words for you... Capacity planning. If you can't put it all together from there then Blake's above comment with Ken's follow up are proven to be the case.

If you can't put it all together from there then...

Take your condescending attitude and stick it far inside, Sifo.

Your attitude needs serious adjustment. I posted politely and inquiringly, and would request you do the same.

Typical SIFO BULLSHIT I never said that and you try to paint me in that light again.

+1

Oh and I was referring to the defense costs that the state will be paying for. It wasn't worth it IMO plain and simple.

Well who would you have decide which criminals that you prosecute? They had a very strong case against Blago. Why in the world would you choose to ignore his criminality? Why would the state pay the defense costs? Did Blago claim to be unable to pay for a lawyer and go with a state provided attorney? I never heard about that. It still is no reason to just let him off even if that were the case.

So what principle separates the Blago prosecution from a rapist?

Fahren, sorry, but you just seem to live in a different dimension that I do.

The fact that rape is far worse a crime.

>>>>>Why in the world would you choose to ignore his criminality?

I don't. I just feel the sentence is too harsh. I also don't feel like paying for his stay for 11.8 years.

>>>>Did Blago claim to be unable to pay for a lawyer and go with a state provided attorney?

No but in a retrial the state pays for defense (if defendant can't). First defense team was about 2 mil. Oh and you get to keep your original lawyers

The fact that rape is far worse a crime.

Yes... And no. Blago committed crimes against approximately 13 million people that he represented in IL.

I don't. I just feel the sentence is too harsh. I also don't feel like paying for his stay for 11.8 years.

My bad. When you said "Actually I would rather no 2nd trial ever took place." I took that to mean that you would rather that he wasn't prosecuted. I had no idea that it meant you felt the sentence was too harsh once he was found guilty on the many charges against him.

I looked into that a bit. You are partially correct, partially incorrect. The defense was paid with public funds. The defense team was also limited by the Judge.

http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news/metro/rod-bla gojevich-retrial-request-cancel-sentencing-now-gov ernor-20110309

quote:

At Blagojevich’s first trial, his campaign fund paid for 14 attorneys and seven paralegals, but that money has run out. Since Blagojevich is using public defense funds for his retrial, the judge has limited him to two attorneys and one paralegal.

The flashy legal team that represented him at his first trial, Sam Adam Jr. and Sam Adam Sr., are not returning for his retrial.

I don't care to have to pay for the trial or incarceration. I do see this as better than sending a message that corruption is OK if you are part of a powerful political machine. Who knows, maybe the Quinn will take notice and not take up residence in our retired governor's mansion.

Perhaps I phrased it wrong. The beginning of that sentence did have the IMO appropriate punishment though.

Let me try again.

In light of what I feel is ten years longer of a punishment than nec and costs of the whole affair. I would almost rather have had no retrial as he will no longer be a problem with his ruined reputation.

IMO 5 years would have been good, and even more fitting would be him at home (costing us nothing) being forced to work a supervised meaningless state job for 15 years. (saving the state money) let him file papers at the DMV or anything for 8 bucks an hour 8 hours a day. make him a janitor at a police station. All of those IMO are more fitting and gives something back to all of us. Also maybe slaving away as one of the people he screwed would also satisfy karma.

They should offer a choice for the criminals who get more than 5 yr sentences.
1 finger or toe = 6 months of prison time.

w/manditory 2 year minimum prison stay.

Takes 2 second to clip a finger and patch it up. Save tax payer money. Give criminals the choice they deserve!

1st choice must be a finger, the remaining can be toes.

"as he will no longer be a problem with his ruined reputation."

I don't believe that to be the case. Lots of political figures go on and continue to cause problems after their reputations are ruined. Voters have short memories, misremember facts, and believe lies that fit their political mindset. If Blago weren't in jail, he'd be running for another public office, or pulling strings for someone else.

Again, a defendant who pleads guilty, shows remorse, asks forgiveness, etc. = light sentence. Blago was none of that.
