There was an internet ring just busted up recently I believe in Russia and they were rerouting links and putting in other advertisement and collecting money. Something to the tune of 7 mil. over a few years if I remember the facts correctly.

Yes, I edited the link, but it used to contain a referral tag, so depending on how it is setup the spammer either gets a paid based on clicks or based on how many that click and buy it.
