Iowa's own Senator Tom Harkin wants to take over everyone's (well most likely non-union) 401ks and roll them into the SS fund. I'm sure that would go over real well. I don't understand why people keep voting for him. | ||

If the Democrats control all three branches of Government and things go bad....Republicans fault! If the Democrats control 2 of 3 branches of Government and things go bad....Republicans fault! Republican Congress....what a joke. Win if can, lose if you must, but always, ALWAYS blame the Republicans. As a fall back position be prepared to blame Bush for everything. In case of emergency.....use the race card. | ||

It once again seems like nobody wants to be president. This makes sense as politicians are in general parasitic vermin and should be treated to a Billy the Exterminator special!!!! They seem to be waiting for things to get better so they don't have to do anything as usual. I believe it may be time for a new Party to take over. The time could be great for an independent to take the rains. The only problem would be the independent couldn't get anything done with the congress as they would simply shun him!!! So I guess some independents have to be voted into local offices in numbers to make an impact, or some BROWN SHIRT POLITICS take a step forward. | ||

That is too simplistic an answer. I have several friends who I consider highly intelligent, who support Obama. It is truly mystifying that they are blind to the structural dangers that 0 is instituting. I can only hope that they awaken but it doesn't matter. California is a lost cause for now and is slurping deeper into the sinkhole. It is up to the rest of America to oust this most dangerous and unqualified President. | ||

The Republicans are the ones that opened the door for the Democrats to continue the systematic rape of the constitution. Do you people not remember what happened between 2001 and 2009?? Patriot Act, illegal wire-tapping, TSA, DHS, etc? The Senate just passed a bill allowing the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens. How did they do this? Because the Republicans allowed them to do it. Link It's not a matter of Republican vs. Democrat - both parties have been bought. All we get is to watch the most powerful nation in the history of man crumble from within. | ||

Buellinmke, Are you SURE that the actually voted on the bill today? http://democrats.senate.gov/floor/votes/ Looks to me that they voted for cloture on S.1867. They did vote down amendments to the bill. Now, the bill must pass the senate. Then the bill must be taken up by the House. IF the house passes an identical bill (virtually impossible), the bill can go before Obama and be signed into law (he's already stated he would veto it). If the House bill is different, it must be reconciled in committee. Then the reconciled bill must be voted on again by the house and senate before it is sent up for Presidential signing. This thing isn't a done deal by a long shot. The real test will be whether or not Reid brings the bill to a vote. He may be playing games. If the bill passes with Republican support, Democrats can blame Republicans for eroding civil liberties. If the bill is defeated because Republicans voted against it, Reid can claim that Republicans are anti-military. My guess, though, is that Republicans are playing some games with this one as well. By preventing the amendments from being added to the bill, Republicans are able to allow the whole ugly mess to be brought to the floor. Since Democrats hold the majority, 100% of the Republicans senators can vote against the bill and it still pass. Democrats get hung on their record of voting for such a bad piece of legislature, and Republicans get to use it as an issue for the 2012 elections. Republican Senators know that there is little likelihood that the bill with these provisions in it would pass the House, so letting it slip through poses little risk. The real test will be the actual floor vote. My guess is that it won't pass or will pass along party lines. I will be very surprised if it passes with many if any Republican support. | ||
